Get Up and Get Moving - Running Shoes: Vibram FiveFingers!

My new running shoes, Vibram Five Finger Sprints. They’re amazing. They’re different from anything I’ve ever worn in my life, but they’re amazing. I grew up barefooted, hated wearing shoes as a kid (who knew I’d become such a shoe monger later in life??), would race my brothers and friends barefooted down the dirt roads (which by the way is a fantastic exercise!) and never knew any different.

Hey Shimmer. Any recommendations for walking shoes?

The Vibrams can be used for walking shoes as well...just the regulars instead of the Sprints. You have to learn how to walk all over again, so the first week or three are muscle intensive, but they're wonderful shoes.

Those are really neat! I hate wearing shoes myself, so this is a neat alternative! How much do these run Shimmer? I might have to pick up a pair for myself & for mom too

Ive read up on them a little bit a few weeks ago.

I wondered if they would do anything for my ankle pain.

Those definitely have me curious. I would love to try them. Did you notice that your toes felt unstable?

I'll admit, I will probably go through a phase of looking at my feet and thinking of Muppets.

They're supposed to alleviate knee and ankle pain.

Walking, my toes don't feel unstable, running, they don't feel unstable, but climbing, and trying to do drop knees, the outside toes aren't strong enough to support my weight without a big toe in a pocket. As for the rest of the time, they're awesome.

    There are mine.

lol she is a cocker spaniel, yes, the mini line. She's dumb as a post but I love her.

double lolz @ my feet, because my climbing shoes have them so chewed up, I seriously haven't had a pedicure in...........................................month s. I'm still saying the shoes are super duper extra comfy.

Very interesting. I saw these somewhere else and they reminded me of Merrill's on crack (for those who aren't familiar with Merrill's, a good deal of their shoes have the Vibram soles).

So do you feel like you're barefoot with them on?

Re: Get Up and Get Moving - Running Shoes: Vibram FiveFingers!

They don't have a traditional arch like what you would imagine shoes to have. Their intent is to strengthen the tendons and ligaments in your feet and the muscles that stabilize, so the super arch supports aren't really present.

Re: Get Up and Get Moving - Running Shoes: Vibram FiveFingers!

I have really, really bad arch pain when walking. My arches are so flat, and pretty non-existant, so I am wondering if these would be the shoes I've been looking for all my life.

ALL sneakers I've ever bought, give me arch pain within minutes of going on a walk. I have probably 20+ pairs in my closet. Oddly enough, the only shoes I can really wear on a walk, are flip flops. They are the only thing that doesnt hurt my arches.

I really want to get a pair of these and see what they do for me!

Check the website, if you have super flat feet, you may not be able to wear them, if you have ANY kind of arch, you should be able to 'work in' to wearing them by strengthening those muscles.

I think they're pretty ugly on, but the function is worth it here. My mom wears them (the regular ones, not the sprints) and they're great for her feet (she's diabetic and the soles of her feet are always slightly numb so she's always shoe experimenting). When you first get them, you're only supposed to wear them for a few hours a day until you get used to them and kinda... get your toes used to where they're supposed to go. I've heard they're quite popular in Hawai'i.

Re: Get Up and Get Moving - Running Shoes: Vibram FiveFingers!

I suppose you couldn't wear them if you had super long toes or something either.

anyhow they look perfect for the lake, walking down to the dock is always hot and slippery and I can also wear them while standing near the edge of the dock so I don't feel the lake bottom(ew!), and possibly if I get enough courage , I can wear them on the JetSki also. They also look good for my various hiking which usually involves walking though streams. I'm thinking of going to L.A and trying a pair on. Especially since it might work for my aching ankle, I'm up for ANYTHING that says it can help ankle pain., Even if it is silly looking "toe shoes"

Im thinking the Green ones or the blue ones.

The white ones look crazy to me with the tan between the toes, and the red ones.. I dunno about them

the red ones are ugly, the toes being long isn't insurmountable, as lots of men wear them.

Re: Get Up and Get Moving - Running Shoes: Vibram FiveFingers!

Late to the party, but here are mine (sorry, I had "watercolor/pen" edited the pics):

I'll be using them primarily for Kinesis (a class that I teach at the gym). We generally recommend participants be barefoot, but I personally try to avoid that myself (for hygiene reasons; I actually like working out barefoot), and subsequent to buying these, I have worn Puma Pilates shoes or my yoga grip socks. So, of course, I had to give these a try.

The friend that was with me when I bought them seriously thought I had lost my mind.

About Sizing: they do mention if the foot length to your big toes have more than .4 cm difference between your feet or your second toes are more than .4 cm longer than your big toe, you may have trouble finding a good fit.
