Great way of getting women to spend more money, more often. Go by texture, scent, and overall performance. You have already starting the bacteria breeding process the first time it's used. I have never gotten any sort of eye infection after over 20 years of experience and I have 20/20 vision.

I always have quite a few mascaras on the go...always looking for the perfect one :P Mine last quite a long itme. I throw them out if they seem to be drying or hte consistency changes.

I don't throw my mascaras away after 3 months as well. I just check the consistency and see if it's still okay to use. If it becomes too thick and dry, that's the time I throw it away which normally takes a little more than 6 months.

I throw away my mascara after 3 months. After 3 months of daily use my mascara tends to be clumpy or is almost empty anyway...
    Best wishes,

I go by texture. Maybe it's the types of mascara that I'm using but they tend to start drying out around the 4-6 month mark. That's why I can't seem to justify spending too much money on mascara. The most expensive ones I've ever used were Lancome Hypnose and MUFE Smokey Lash (I LOVE THIS!!!). I've had a sample of Diorshow Blackout and I have to admit that its a wonderful mascara but that price scares me!

I usually go by both the 3-month rule and texture. The mascara starts drying up around the 3-month mark for me anyway.

I usually go by texture too. I tend to have a few tubes on the go so I don't use the same one daily, once it starts to get globby and clumpy I toss it. Which is ssually about 6 months.

I only toss my personal mascara if it is drying out or if it smells. I never pump the wand
