Boyfriend Is Getting Pissed With My Make-Up Obsession

Ladies!!

I badly need some advice right now. My relationship is on the line. I feel like my boyfriend is being so unreasonable. He knows I love makeup. He knows I'm passionate about makeups, but he recently asked me to stop buying my favorite stuff. It's not that he has to spend his money on it. I buy my own things. But he wanted me to save money instead of buying cosmetics. Though I understand his point, I still don't want to give up my happiness. I love doing makeup and I love collecting them. What should I do? The more he insists on stopping me from buying makeups, the more I realize that he's not supportive of my hobbies. What do I have to do? What should I tell him?

Well ultimately it's up to you what you do with your money but if he is coming from a genuine place of concern , for example if he is worried that you are struggling financially because you are buying all the latest makeup must haves or getting into debt because of your hobby or he wants both of you to save for a house or to get married ect then I'd take into consideration what he's saying but if you have your bills paid and a bit put aside for a rainy day and you are just buying an item here and there and he's just saying it in a way that he's trying to make you feel bad for getting the makeup that you love then you need to reassess your relationship cause down the line it will be something else you'll have to give up and ain't no one got time for that ;) Good Luck x

That's the problem. I already talked to him and told him that I love what I'm doing. Though he said he perfectly understands, his actions were different I guess. He was never mean to me when it comes to buying makeups but every time I got new ones...he'll tell me "you already got those". As if the collection of makeups end there. But yeah.. will talk to him about it. You think he'll definitely support me when I tell him I can't live without it?

Yes, you can live without makeup. The issue is you don't want to be without makeup.

What you're seeing as indulging in a long-term interest (and I agree that as long as your bills are getting paid, your money is yours to spend as you wish), he may be seeing as you spending your money on stuff you don't need or already have when you could be saving it for something else that could be more important down the road. At some point, especially if you both see yourselves together long-term and want to take your relationship to the next stage, you're going to need to talk about money. It seems like it may be something he's already concerned about.

Thanks so much, Shelly.

Yes, I think he's trying to get serious with our relationship. It's not that I don't want to settle down, it's just... I feel like I'm not over with things I love the most. I mean, I've read a lot of articles from different sites such as www.regain.us, The Gottman, L&L Toolbox, about how to deal with relationship when money is being involved. Though I can somehow relate to the stories, it seems like my makeup addiction is not on the list of the topics. I don't want to offend him but will it be possible to tell him directly that "I don't want to be without makeup"?

We've compromised. Will still have my makeups, but no more hoarding. I got to learn to purchase just what I need (hope I can survive )
