Is love possible to find online? Am I crazy? or desperate?

I met a guy like that. We had a lot in common and he was super nice and sweet. He sent me little things in the mail and whatnot and we planned to meet as well. He actually told me he lived in B.C (I'm in Ontario). Things started going downhill when I met a guy and started to go out with him casually. The internet dude got super jealous ans a little nuts....scary. Anyweays, to make a long story short, I found out he lived in Amsterdam ( NOT B/C) and had lied about a lot of things. He internet-stalked me for YEARS....to this day even. I'll have random emails adding me to MSN and all of a sudden he'll start cursing and calling me names after I accept the request. He's threatened me and tried to blackmail me about getting ahold of my family/friends/coworkers and telling them personal stuff I told him in trust. Its really scary - and this was YEARS ago to boot! So just remember that people aren't always what they seem when it comes to talking online. The persona can definately do a complete 180 in real life!

Yes, it is possible to find love online. It might not happen with the person you think it might happen.

I met my boyfriend online back in April. He emailed me and I told him if he wants to talk, to talk to me on AIM. He didn't have internet access at that point, and got AIM working on his phone. At that point in time I was living with my parents, working a terrible retail job and not wanting to meet him. He lived 1.5 hours away, and I figured it'd just be a waste if he came to meet me. He didn't seem my type and he didn't seem geeky enough for me. I blew him off most of the time, but I still continued to talk to him for whatever reason.

I moved 1 hour away from my parents for the boring retail job, which was only 40 minutes from him. He continually bothered me until I agreed to meet him just a day after I moved. He brought me a rose (and a vase, he figured I didn't have one). He took me out to eat, but started feeling sick midway through the meal. We stopped at Target to pick up a few things then he left for the night to go rest.

We talked some more online, he apologized for being a lame date and maybe we could try again? We met again 2 days later, at my apartment. We walked a block away and got pizza, and sat in front of my computer watching Ironman on DVD. He ended up spending the night. And took me for delicious locally made chocolate later too.

He was still very much the same person I talked to online, but he was the geeky type I love. I was thrilled.

My retail job turned for the worst after a month of working at the new place. Not that business was slow, but my boss (the owner) went apeshit when he found out I had a boyfriend. I put in my 2 weeks notice, because I was not going to deal with the abuse, lies and possible stalking from him (the owner). He had rented me an apartment to live in, now without that job I had to get out. It was either move back in with my parents, or move in with my boyfriend, who had a 2 bedroom apartment with a friend. The friend is a deadbeat, and wasn't paying rent. He gave the friend till the end of June to find a new place.

So barely after 1 month of dating, we moved in together. After about a month I found a new job. In October we found a different apartment that wasn't in a bad section of town, also in a state cheaper to live in, and about 5 minutes away from my work. We now have 2 of my cats (that were living with my parents, and my mother agreed to give up), multiple fish and toads.

We've gone through some rough times. His car dying and needing a $2000-3000 repair job. He sold it as junk and started driving my car (I didn't have a job at the time, and when I found my job he had enough flexibility to drive me to and from work). Difficulty in finding an apartment that would allow cats, other weird car issues, his ex constatly bothering us, that sort of thing.

I don't think we're a "normal" couple, but honestly it's worked out great for us. We don't fight, and even with sucky work schedules we're very happy. People keep asking us how many years we've been dating, and when we're getting married. Or they just assume we're married. That's up to him. I could care less.

In the end it has worked out for us.

I think I should try this internet thing.
I've been afraid of the reputation of being sad and desperate more than being alone for along time.

What sites and forums are reputable to use you guys?
Craigslist seems like a big NO

I used to use PlentyOfFish.com, but I met my current boyfriend by replying to his post on Craigslist =) Every dating site has its reputation. You definitely meet a lot of frogs... but none of that matters when you find your prince <3

Just be safe about how you meet up with guys and be clear on what you're looking for, e.g. casual dating, friendship, long term, etc.

If you're very serious about it, you might want to try a site that you have to pay for. Less chance of finding someone who's in it for the wrong reasons plus you do the tests and it helps match you up.

yes! my met by boyfriend back way back when randomly in a chatroom when I was 15 or 16. We didn't get along at all. Flashforward like 2/3 years and we randomly "bumped" into each other again on the internet and started hitting it off. 2 years later we met in person, and now we've been living together for nearly 3 years. Love is possible online, you just have to trust your gut

Hi, thanks for asking! Well we are just really really close friends now, he was going to come this month to visit again, but we've pushed that date back to March. Hopefully he'll come back, although we got into a pretty heated discussion last night that did not end well, but whatever.
He's a very nice person that has helped me out in tight spots this whole year, I really appreciate him a lot, but I've realized I don't want to do the whole long distance thing wit him.
I've been " shopping around" but still single at the moment!

Can you remember what his post was like? When I look there I'm like "From what you posted you're destine to be alone!!! What a jerk!" Cause some of these guys just say dumb, dumb, DUMB things on their posts!! Like "I'm up for whatever" and that's the end of their post or just endless cursing in their posts or photos of themselves with ex's!

I hear ya! The long distance can be tough. I dated this great guy in the Air Force and he was just always somewhere else and I couldn't handle it. Not easy. Well at least it was a good experience. Hope you two continue to remain friends. Shopping is always fun!

I've seen those ridiculous posts. The longer ones are actually the best, not always but at least they put some effort and time into making it in-depth and a bit personal. I never took the short, "I'm up for whatever/anything" Ads seriously at all. It just screamed I'M A PIG! (^@^) Lol. Pretty lazy too. And yeah using profanity shows his lack of respect and is clearly not a gentleman. I've seen the pictures with their ex too, I'm like shoot, at least crop or block her face, that's wrong. I've tried the online before, met one guy and it was enough to turn me off to online dating. Not him, because he was easy on the eyes and was actually a nice guy but too socially awkward (long story ha). What intrigued me about his Ad was that it was well written, no typos lol, was long but not a novel, had personality, and made me want to get to know him more. We met up in person a month later after continuous, everyday fun phone conversations. But we chatted on messenger for a week first. Anywho, like everything else in life, just gotta be cautious.

I saw this post super late but yes you can find love online. I met my husband in an AOL chat room in January 2005 and we were married September 2008. I think him being only 30 mins away made the difference. I did long distance before and it didn't work out well but I always felt like I couldn't trust him anyway so I should have listened to my gut. With my husband it was totally different, I got butterflies just talking to him on the phone and seeing his screen name pop up in the friends box. You will know when it is right.

Totally possible. I met my boy of almost 4 years now on MYSPACE of all places!! hahaha. It was weird at first, and we started out as just friends. Then he was a creeper and randomly showed up at my work one day all stalker-like and was like "Hey are you Nikki?"

And I was like ".....yeahhh....OMG! ROB?!?! YOU ARE SO MUCH HOTTER IN REAL LIFE!!" and ran over and hugged him. And if you knew me prior to metting him I was seriously the most shy person ever and you would have never expected to hear anything like that out of me. We hung out a few times together after that. Then he dumped his girlfriend for me basically
shockt.gif
and we've been together ever since!!

The funniest is that we lied and didn't tell my parents about him coming into my work. So they said if I was going to meet him it had to be at our house while my parents were there just in case he was psycho pervy old man. lmao

Now he practically lives with me. And soon as money and school allows we're going to move out and in together and get married.

So yes. Being with someone that brought me completely out of my shelll and gave me confidence I have never had before, and made me love life, someone I met on MYSPACE (still so funny to me), I can safely say internet love is possible

I met my boy on Facebook in 2008 when I was playing around on a game where you buy people's photos. I bought his randomly and he sent me a message jokingly saying "what?! is that all you're pimping me out for?". We sent a few messages back and forth on this silly game, then I added him as a friend on FB, saw on his profile that he is in the same city as me. That resulted in MSN
tong.gif
we were like addicted to chatting on there every day which eventually resulted in phone conversations...

After a few months we met and started going out for coffee, movies, etc as just really good friends. That turned into something more.

Here's the weird part...
In 2004 when I was in my last year of school I used to do work experience at a supermarket. I'd do one day a week at this place and all I'd be doing is restocking shelves in the frozen and dairy section. There was always this cute guy with an afro that would also be working in the dairy section and we never spoke but always exchanged smiles when we'd pass each other. I ended up crushing on this guy big time while I was there but was too shy to talk to him.

That cute afro guy turned out to be him!

I met my boyfriend online, been with him for 4 years and we have an amazing relationship even though we still live 250 miles from eachother (lived with him for a year and half but due to family complications, moved back home) But alot of poeple do laugh at people meeting online, but in my opinion, it's no different from meeting at a club, in school, in the street, speed dating.. I'd say if it feels natural, go for it

I openly tell anyone how I met him, I have a better relationship than most peolpe I know, theres no shame in it.

Yes! It's possible. I have had some good experiences with online friendships and dating, some bad ones too. But I have met the one I was always meant to be with via good ole MySpace.

He and I had been friends online for around two years. More recently, we reconnected and it just turned into something that neither of us expected. We have so much in common, and even the things that make us different are so wonderful because we balance each other. We talk every day and we trust each other. That's huge, for both of us, because we've both been through a lot and have been jaded. But we both feel that our lives have been made better by the other
greengrin.gif

I live in Nevada, he lives in Mississippi. I scored myself a country boy LOL But really, he is an incredible man, and I can't wait to see him this summer. It's so funny. Because he is not my "normal type" like a few other people have said. And just like Tish's husband said, it's probably good that he's not like anything or anyone I've ever experienced, because they obviously weren't what I needed! He also cares very much for my daughter. He doesn't hold it against me that I have a child from a previous relationship. he knows how much she means to me and that I'm not holding on to any feelings for her dad.

He means so much to me, and I to him. I can't wait to see where this goes. I believe in it. The connection we have is too real!

I know this post is old, but it's still fun to read all the wonderful stories. And OP I'm sooooo glad to see your update and your pics. I'm glad he didn't listen to the naysayers and came to visit you anyway. I hope you two are doing well <3

It's possible. I met my ex-boyfriend online and we had an amazing time together, although we're not together now.. we are still friends and I don't regret any of our time together.

As for now... I have officially booked my flight to Washington DC to go and meet a guy I've known for over a year online. We decided it was time to see how we are together in real life. We get along great online and on the phone, we speak daily. I'm spending the whole summer with him.
