A Makeup Addict's Semi-comical Failed Attempt to Go "Minimal"

Last Saturday night, I had a difficult time sleeping, for some obscure reason.
I usually get up early on Sunday morning to go to Bible study, but, because of my bad night, I figured I'd be too tired this Sunday.
However, I woke up only five minutes later than usual, and decided to go for it.
As I always do on such occasions, I declared, "I'll just put on minimal makeup ..."

But, when it was time for makeup, I did the following:

Put on my sunscreen - I still need to protect my skin, no matter what.
Put on foundation - If you're going to go around with uneven skin, why bother with *any* makeup?
Swiped on blush - I looked pale, with just foundation.
Stained my lips - I needed color on my lips, to balance my cheeks
Applied eyelid primer - I 'm just going to swipe on a single shade of eyeshadow, but why have that just melt into my creases?
Applied lid shade - Looks okay, but I've got 71 eyeshadows and some killer brushes, so why not add a little depth to the creases?
Applied contour shade - Looks kind of dark, without highlight.
Applied highlight eyeshadow shade - Looks good, but I think I look "unfinished" without eyeliner.
Applied eyeliner to upper lid. But I'm for sure skipping lower lid liner today. It's completely unnecessary.
Used corner curler on upper lashes - The last thing I need this morning is droopy looking lashes.
Used conventional curler to curl entire lash line - It'll look weird if I don't.
Applied lash primer - It'll just take a second, and will make a lot of difference.
Applied mascara - Gotta cover up the white primer!
Used scary metal lash comb - Clumped lashes are demoralizing, and I don't need that this morning.
Applied "top coat" of waterproof mascara - The weather is so humid.
Used scary metal lash comb - See above.
Applied lower lid liner - It's so quick and easy, and I'm doing fine on time, so why not?
Brushed brows and applied clear brow gel - The weather's so humid ...
Applied lip balm - These dry lips were driving me crazy!
Applied lip liner - If I've gone to the trouble of staining my lips, why not lightly line them?
Applied lipstick - Since I've applied all that other stuff, I'd look odd with no lipstick.
Blotted lipstick - Too dark is too dark, even on a bad morning.
Blotted lipstick again - See above.
Applied lipstick - Went overboard on blotting, and what's the point, if you're left colorless?
Blotted lipstick - Too dark again, but now it's perfect, because it HAS to be!
Decided between plum sparkly gloss and silver sparkly gloss(Date Night and She -Zam, respectively) Chose and applied plum.
Figured "Why not both?" and applied a few dabs of silver gloss on top of plum gloss, and rubbed lips together to distribute.
I'm finished, but not exactly "minimal!"

Oh my gosh this happens to me too! I'm running late and I'm like "Welll.. i'll just put my foundation on... maybe a little bronzer and blush. Okay maybe a swipe of eyeshadow." Challenge failed for me hahah.

It's darned near impossible for a makeup addict to go "cold turkey," isn't it?

It IS awful, isn't it?
However, I'm starting to see some glimmers of hope lately.
Most of the time, for example, I can apply my eyeliner, say to myself, "That looks okay," and go on, without micro-adjusting it.
Maybe I'm not too far gone ... ;)

I know this is an old post, I read it last year and it made me chuckle. I though to myself, lol really? Why not just apply some neutral eyeshadow and mascara. And then the day came where something similar happened to me, haha

i agree. i always tell myself this, too. haha.
The pathetic thing is, this is all TRUE.
I really do this to myself!
I never quite give up, though.
My skin has recently started looking better, and just the other day, I found myself musing aloud, "I wonder if maybe this summer, I could get away with wearing just [sunscreen and] concealer, powder, mascara, and lip gloss."
Then I look at aaaallll of the eyeshadows, liners, lipsticks and blushes I own, and I know it'll never happen.
I don't think ...
