how to remove eye makeup so as to not get it in your eyes?

I use almay waterproof makeup remover pads and somehow get makeup in my eye when using these. How do you avoid getting the oily remover or makeup in your eye when removing. Sorry if this sounds dumb, but I close my eye, use the pad to swipe and somehow stuff gets in my eye!

I use a washcloth, wet, with makeup remover, I prefer this, its less ''oily'' than the pads and it doesnt get in my eyes.

I start by ''brushing'' my lashes with a lot of water on the washcloth (and remover) from under the lashes, and after I pass it from top to bottom.

If the oil get into your eyes, you can use ''Visine'' to help

I always have this problem too, no matter what I do! I like to first use an eyemakeup remover on a q-tip to remove my eyeliner and it helps loosen mascara. Then I'll gently remove the mascara by gently rolling my lashes between my wet fingers (and frequently rinsing) until no more remainds, then I wash my face.

Your question isn't dumb! I've been battling this for a long time and my eyes are pretty sensitive too (I'll never 'redo' my m/up in the middle of the day for this reason). I often use 'tear' type eyedrops afterwards to help rinse them out. (not visine).

I use an cotton bud and dip it in Eye MU remover....for my eye liner. But i use a MU wipe to get my eyeshadow and mascara off. I keep a wet towel near by incase any of it get in my eyes..
I tell you what eye MU is a big pain to get off...other product on your face is soo easy!

Re: how to remove eye makeup so as to not get it in your eyes?

I have exactly the same problem too. I usually use a cotton ball w/ makeup removal oil to take off my eye makeup. But for close-to-lashline eyeliner and waterproof mascara, it is so difficult to take them off completely. I always end up w/ sticky junk in the corners of my eyes. I have to use soft tissue or q-tips to reach inside of my eye corners and remove those. But it's a pain, and irritates my eyes a lot. I hope there's a better way I can take off makeup w/o so much hassels.

we recommend to our patients that they use ocu soft lid scrub...which is readily available at most drug stores....and it also helps to prevent blepharitis on the lid borders.

Makeup remover pads always give me a problem!! I use PURPOSE gentle cleasing wash. This stuff is a HG for me!! Removes waterproof makeup, gentle, and non-irritating. Plus it's oil free

If you're going to stick with a pre-moistened pad, try folding up the pad and squeezing the excess product out before using it. If the pad is really saturated with makeup remover, just pressing the pad against your eyelid is going to squeeze liquid out which will just end up running into your eye.

I personally prefer to cleanse my entire face with Cetaphil and then use a little makeup remover on a lint-free cotton pad to remove the rest of my eye makeup. Depending on the amount of eyeliner and how tight it is next to my lashes, sometimes I'll have to put a dab of makeup remover on a qtip to get the rest of it off. Then I rinse off any oily residue.

Re: how to remove eye makeup so as to not get it in your eyes?

ill have to try the non-oily ones by almay...i got the extra moisturizing ones by almay because it had a sticker on it that said ranked number 1 by beauty editors....&&holy crap!!! i swear to you i had blurred vision for like fifteen minutes....so oily and gross it went straight into the trash. if i need to crash and really have no time to take off the makeup, i use neutrogenas gentle eye remover pads=LOVE!!! theyre so soft and dont tug on my eyes, and do a really awesome job at removing all traces of eye makeup.

Re: how to remove eye makeup so as to not get it in your eyes?

    Two suggestions:

    1. If the pads are pre-soaked, they probably have too much remover on them, so they leak all over & get in your eyes. Take a clean cotton pad & press it against the wet one, then use one per eye.

    2. Gently press the whole pad over your closed eye & hold for a few seconds, this will give the remover time to dissolve your makeup (esp. mascara). Then gently wipe in a downward motion. I then fold my pad in half & use the folded edge to wipe my bottom lash line & get into the corners.

    Hope it helps!

Thanks, I ordered some of this. I've been having very sensitive eyes lately.

Re: how to remove eye makeup so as to not get it in your eyes?

I use vaseline petroleum jelly and rub it over my eyelid, then take a clean tissue and swipe my eye, all gunk comes off.
If gunk still remaining, I take baby wipes, or moist makeup remover cloths (not pads) and continue wiping.
    Yay for makeup!

with removing makeup i find that Q-Tips are your best friend! dip in makeup remover and swipe to get all the makeup off out of corners and tight areas you might miss when using just a cotton pad x)

Re: how to remove eye makeup so as to not get it in your eyes?

I find that if you get a thinner pad (I just accidently got some thicker pads and I kept getting it in my eye!) and instead of pressing on your eye (where the liquid can seep into your eye) just hold it on your eye for a few seconds. This seems to almost "break up" the mascara and then just wipe gently and it comes off nicely.

hmm.. again this is so personal. I have grown used to using a cotton pad with Bifacil. I let it work for a moment and then swipe... after that I use a q tip for the corners, under lashes etc. ... when the makeup is really waterproof I sometimes need some liquid remover (Maybelline water/blue cap is good for this) and then all the makeup is removed.

Re: how to remove eye makeup so as to not get it in your eyes?

I've always used a gel eyemakeup remover in the shower and gently rub it through my lashes and it basically disolves the mascara & all. I just wipe it away with a wet washcloth. I wear contacts and this seems to be the least harsh on my eyes.

i use a cotton pad with bi-facil make up remover, immediately after i use another cotton pad with some clean water spritzed on it to wipe off the remaining makeup remover residue

I use cotton pads with Baby oil and for stubborn areas, a Q-tip soaked with Baby oil. I find that baby oil leaves my eye area a lot smoother than makeup removers, and I've also stopped shedding lashes.

Agree with the qtip comment. Use cotton pad for bigger swoop above and below eye and then qtip closer to eye for better control. Also- try easing up on the amount of product to avoid any drip...this is what I find irritate my eyes!
