There are studies that people have posted on the MUA skin care board about this but since they messed up those boards with a redesign I wouldn't be able to find them atm (or maybe never, lol). Anyway the thought is to do what your derm suggested and then don't do a ton of buffing. Some people on the SCB just pat their makeup on top. I am not that careful but I do think about it and try to blend gently. If I can find any of that stuff on MUA I will come back to post it here.
I think that this is one of the biggest issues.

One of the bigger concerns than mixing sunscreens is issue of not applying enough of it and not re-applying. I am certainly guilty of the latter one.

Same, and even if you do everything perfectly it's still best to stay out of the sun at the worst times. Any tan = skin damage. It's too late for someone like me who tanned with baby oil in my 20s and had a derm who treated me with a sunlamp in my teens but I do my best now. TBH I wear a hat a lot of the time.

@patentg33k wanted to mention this one to you. I'm trying it today after seeing a lot of raves on MUA. A more matte finish and much lighter tint than most. Also Ulta though, and I suspect it will be even more drying than the others I use.

When I got serious about applying the correct amount of sunscreen, I was shocked at how much a quarter of a teaspoon actually is. It's 5 pumps of my Elta MD!

Regarding reapplying - has anyone used those mineral brush on sunscreens? I am debating either the colorscience or the tarter version.

I tried various brands. None of them worked well with make up. It was either cakey, patchy, or both. And the application was also not satisfactory. It either spilled the product or nothing came out.

Let us know how they work for you.

    Eh...nothing special.
The highlighter side of them was gorgeous, but I found the matte blush to be very thin and they didn't show up much.

[QUOTE=Winthrop44;2788029]It's pretty difficult to find ones that are not too dark and/or orange. I'm NC10-15 and I know you're not that much darker. I use EltaMD Physical SPF 41. They make others you might prefer although I'm not familiar with any that are lighter tints. I buy it from lovelyskin.com (if you order try code ELTAMDSPF). It's a bit dark for me but I live with it. It might work for you. How do you get the DE to work for you? The untinted Umbra looks ok on me and I'd love to use it but it sucks all the moisture out of my skin and by the end of the day my face feels so tight I'd swear it has shrink wrap on it.

Thanks all for these suggestions--I've learned so much!!! Winthrop44--all physical sunscreens dry my skin out without exception. I really like having a full-spectrum though and the physical seems to do better because I'm always fighting dark patches. Right now, I'm in a humid location so it's not too bad. And the Umbra seems to dry it out less than some others.

    Thanks again to everyone!!!

What is everyone's favorite cool neutral e/s palette? Doesn't have to be from Sephora, just figured I'd ask in here. I have so many warm neutrals but might like a cool leaning palette too!

Thanks for all the sunscreen talk, I'm guilty of the baby oil in the teens and 20s and the sunlamp by the MD too. I've tried sunscreens from Europe that are SPF 50 and they are much more emollient and pleasant to wear. But, the way they treat sunscreen in Europe and the US is totally different. I'm not sure whose standards are stricter but these products are not available here for some reason. I heard they don't want to do the testing to meet FDA requirements but also heard that EU has strict standards too.

Totally guilty here. Through the mid-70's we used to hang out at the lake or lay out by pool & mix baby oil & iodine together, shake it up & slather it on. We'd lay those shiny aluminum foil looking mats on our lounge chairs. We had our transistor radio for music & every 30 minutes the dj would say time to turn over. Then throughout the end of the 70's we all bought sun lamps. In the early 80's came salons with tanning beds.

Late 80's & early 90's I started using sunscreen but not as regularly as I should have. But I coated my kids. I got super serious about using sunscreen in the mid-90's & I early 30's. I saw a sunspot on my sister's hand (she's 8 yrs older) & it freaked me out. My grandmother & my mother always had pale smooth beautiful hands till they passed, both were in their 70's. They had no spots or wrinkles, just a few small lines under their eyes. I was so oblivious as to what I was doing to my skin. Now I pretty much avoid being in the sun, playing with my grandkids is the exception but I definitely wear sunscreen & make sure they do.

Why don't my little smilie-dudes ever show on my posts? They show up until my reply or whatever actually posts. It's been like this for quite some time now, so frustrating.

If you're trying to use emojis from a phone or tablet, they will never show up in posts when you view them back on a computer. You'll get a black diamond in their place instead. That's pretty much always been the case.

Out of curiosity I checked on skincarerx & the 30% off code apparently doesn't apply to Darphin. I did try the code MORE & it took 25% off of the 3 items in my cart. Did you find any products you use on there? I saw they don't carry many.

Yes! That's what I've been doing and I love the GWPurchases I've received. Plus, they sent me a free full size $150 product of my choice because of a mess up they did with my order.
