Ive had to do a few returns at Sephora.com and i was perfectly able to do an exchange thru the mail. All i had to do was pay the extra shipping & Handling.Ive also done a return for a refund they will either credit your credit account or a quicker option is for them to credit your sephora account. That way it will be automatically applied to your next sephora order.Good option if your a frequent Sephora.com shopper!I think they have one of the best customer service ive ever come across. They will take anything back, even if opened and lightly used.No questions asked. If you dont like the product you just have to pay the S&H and you will get your refund for that item.If the return is there error, like items broken or wrong. They will pay the S&H and you get a full refund.Hope that helps

By the way my exchange was i had ordered something and didnt like the color so i called up and they did an exchange for the other color of the same product i wanted. So maybe they just dont do exchanges for totally different items. But the color exchange they accepted fine.

It has always been easy for me to return things to Sephora. Even if you don't have your receipt, they give you store credit for the current selling price. However if more than half of the item you are returning is paid for with store credit, you get everything back in store credit (even the portion that you paid for with cash or credit card).

I do all my Sephora exchanges/returns in person because I live 15 minutes away from a Sephora store. I never return things through the mail because I am way too impatient and I am scared of it getting lost or crushed (plus you gotta pay for shipping). But of course, if you don't live near a Sephora, then mail returns may be the only way to go.

Yes, always keep your receipts. Keep them for about a month before throwing them away and be aware of the time frame. If you don't have one, they can give you store credit.

It is easy to do returns at Sephora- part of the reason why I shop there. When I mail in my returns I never had to pay for the shipping- they give you a postage paid sticker and I just drop it off at my local USPS.
The downfall of doing it this way is - there is no tracking- and it does take a while to get it refunded- 2-3 weeks is the average for me.
However I have never had any problems with returning it via mail.
In store is another issue.
About 95% of the time- I have no issues. Most of the SA are really nice and since it is their policy to 'gladly' take back stuff you are are not happy.
The one time I returned something at the Downtown Seattle store ( which I do not go to much- it's a PIA to go there ) The manager there was giving me a hard time- going in the back to check on something- before I was allowed to return it. Then they inspected my returns- which I don't mind- but they were really looking through them. I am not the type to use up then return- if I don't like it- I can tell after a a couple of tries. It just made me feel uncomfortable- another thing about that store was they were following me around and everytime I were to look at something- they asked me if I needed help like 5x in the 20 mins. I was there. I don't know if it's just becuase it was Downtown Seattle and they have a lot of thef but the other Sephora's I go to I don't have that issue.

They've just changed their return policy.

If you have the receipt, then it's business as usual - they'll just refund.

If you don't have a receipt, then they ask for a piece of state-approved picture ID (driver's license, for example), and they take down ALL your information - name, address, phone number. Then they issue only a store gift card, that you cannot use on the website.

From what I've heard, this was done both to curb chronic returners (especially those who buy in other, discounted locations or shoplift and 'return' for credit) and because of staff who were returning gratis in other stores.

As far as I know, they won't go so far as to ban people for chronic returns, and I wouldn't worry if you lose your receipt and want to return something every now and then. (If you're using a BI account or credit cards, they're tracking you anyway. I actually got an e-mail from Sephora asking me to rate a product I just bought. I had actually forgotten to use my BI card, so the only way they knew was because I used my credit card. CREEPY.)

I think it's really aimed more to stop gratis abuse (which is considered a termination-worthy offense).

I believe I read on their site- that you would get a refund back in a form a a store credit- at current price and local currency? So if they still carry it and it's in their system- they will take it back.

Regarding the new return w/out receipt policy. You do have to show them a valid ID. Supposedly the new store credit is only good in store and you need to have a ID to use it but I have actually used it online a few times with no issues. I don't know if it's kink in their system or what- it may change later not to work on online orders.
Since the new policy- I did return more than three times ( had a bunch of gifts ) and didn't get banned or anything like that.
Just an FYI!
