Stalked @ Sephora?

didn't see anything in the boards about this...does anyone else get HIGHLY annoyed when the SAs @ Sephora practically stalk you throughout the store...I know there must be a great deal of shoplifting and they're only doing their job...but it not only makes you uncomfortable shopping, it is a deterrent (to me) to even buy something...I have often thought to complain about this...there must be a better way to monitor for stealing rather than pretending to be fixing stock, etc. while watching every move you make..am I being unreasonable??

No, your not. I understand where your coming from that's not your problem that people steal, and I would be offended as well.

Oh my gosh i know exactly what you mean!! I hate it! They ask if you need help with anything smiling at you and you say no thanks i am just looking, and continue to look at what you were looking at and you look over and they are still standing their staring at you smiling!! Yesh

i understand what you mean. usually when they ask me if i'm finding everything alright, i tell them yes in a way where they know i don't want them to stalk me in the store.

A lot of times I just go in Sephora to look at stuff without the intention to buy, so the stalking can be really annoying. I understand why they have to do it, I get it... but sometimes I would like my personal bubble to not be invaded! I always say nicely that I am just looking, thank you, but on some they don't get the hint.

I've had some of the SAs get really bitchy about me swatching, too. I just do it on my arm, and it's not like I run out the store and take pictures, I always scrub it off with the shitty remover that they have out for people to use (it wouldn't remove UD eyeliners at all!!) I'm not going to buy a product without first seeing how it looks on my skin, I thought that was the purpose of testers?!

They honestly get crap stolen from them A LOT. Like a ridiculous amount. Im sorry, i know its annoying, but i dont blame them for keeping a close eye on the "just looking" clientel. I mean, how do they know if your a makeup fanatic, right? To them, your just some girl touching absolutely everything.

When i go in and someone asks me if i need help, i always ask them a question. About anything. Like; do you guys know if you'll be getting Urban Decay? Someone told me they heard you would. Or Have you got the Twilight Lip Venom stain in yet? Even if you know the answer to the question, just ask them something. I find that that way they know you have an interest in the products and arent just looking to line your pockets. The "im just looking response" while being 100% honest, can sometimes seem like a quick response to get the SA to leave you alone, ya know?

Trust me, i know it's super annoying. I don't get it at Sephora, but lots of other stores. I find if i ask a question and engage the SA they leave me alone after that.

The weird thing is...I've never been bothered by an SA at Sephora. I guess it's because I always go during their busier times, but I'll get a few of them asking nicely if I need any help, and all I do is say "No, thank you, just looking" with a smile, and they leave me alone. I can literally stay in Sephora for a full hour and swatch to my heart's content without anyone getting in my way...which is fine by me!

I know exactly what you guys are talking about. This type of thing happens to me in every store, not just Sephora.

I don't think I'd mind as much if it was always consistent. But I know that if I go in my "office clothing" they smile, offer me a basket, offer help once, and leave me alone. If I go in wearing jeans, sneakers and no makeup (which makes me look younger than my 31 years), they are still definitely polite but they often they trail me.

This happened to me for the first time last week at Sephora. It's really annoying and frustrating that the shoplifters ruin the experience.

Yeah your not alone dear. Whenever me and my mom go in there we get bugged a bit on days when I just get out of school and we go there to look at new stuff (and I don't have a lot of makeup on). But if I go in my full face they'll ask me what stuff it is I'm wearing and they leave me alone after that lol.

ARE YOU SERIOUS???? This happened exactly to me and my daughter this past summer..I reported the SA cause I felt I was being racially profiled while shopping in the store...I emailed to the home company and they got in touch with the Sephora(won't name the mall) manager. I went in that MOnday and I told her everything that happened to me and my daughter that day..She knew exactly the SA I was talking about.. I mean this lady kept following us and PRETENDING TO FIX THE SCENT DISPLAY WHEN ALL ALONG SHE WAS WATCHING US..It was sickening...The Assistant manager gave me all 3 products for free and I even returned the products I had purchased that day. That SA sold them to me and had an attitude on top of it.

My situation wasn't racially motivated and this is not the first time it's occurred..it actually happens almost every time I shop there (about 1-2x/month)...whether I'm in work or casual clothes ..maybe there's just alot of thieves on LI (LOL)?!?!

Mabelle, you're right...when you ask them a question and particularly when you know more than they do, not only do they pretty much leave you alone.....they practically run the other way(then it's another one in a different section that's "watching" you). Gotta love when you hear the walkie-talkies telling staff to go to different sections...

You've convinced me, LatteQueen, to say something the next time I go there (NO, don't think I'd have the willpower to do a personal BOYCOTT, LOL)...don't care whether they offer me anything, though that was a nice gesture...but there must be a more unobtrusive way to catch shoplifting...

Glad to read your's wasn't racial..but mine was cause there was another female(white) and this SA didn't even approach her..just followed me and my daughter around esp to this one makeup display "Makeup Forever". didn't follow us to the brush area..but as soon as we went back to the MF display she was there again bugging us. Even to the point grabbing the items out of my hands..my daughter gave her the meanest look( a look that can kill). Then proceeded to break her azz to get to the register to wait on us and have an attitude on top of that when I inquired about a product that was up front..Threw the item on the counter..I WAS TOO F**KIN THRU BY THEN..HOme I went and filed a major complaint against this woman..this wasn't the first time I experienced this type of situation with this person. I told the home company that and the manager of the store..I think they must've had problems with her before cause like I said the manager knew exactly whom I was talking about..

Plus no store don't want to hear or read anything about a customer being racially profiled..and this store didn't want to read that..I couldn't believe how fast my problem was handled by the headquarters. Now that's service..You best believe I took those 3 free products that Assisstant manager was giving me..that day was horrible as hell..I had to return the bought products that the SA sold to me..I mean she waited on me and was ringing me up of these products..I couldn't enjoy them just knowing I was being racially profiled...So that day when I was telling the manager of what happened I returned those products with no problem. She apologized and said to me I hope this bad experience won't stop you from coming back to shop here..I said I will return if she don't wait on me..and we all laughed..

I completely agree. I work in retail, and its not that I think you're going to steal, but if you are going to steal I have to SEE you take it and put it in your purse. I have to know what you took, where you put it and not let you out of my sight before I can say anything to a manager. I can't accuse someone of stealing without that information.

If I got over to a section and I find sensors or an empty package I could get in trouble. Also, during our twice-a-year huge inventory we are supposed to be under a certain percentage of unaccounted for merchandise. If we are over then the store manager gets chewed out, who chews out the other managers, who chew out the assistant managers, etc. Always rolls down hills.

So I wouldn't take it personally. Most of the time when you come into my store, I don't know you. I love my job and I really do what to help you and tell you about any deals we have going on, and just chat about things in general! But I also don't want to lose my job because I wasn't observant enough and some punk slipped some things into their pocket.

Also a lot of times, especially during holidays, I'm assigned to a section of the store. I can't leave that section and I can't stand in one place. So I have to hang out in that section my entire shift. Usually I will walk around, fix things, check for under-stocked items, ask customers if they need help etc. I had one person accuse me of following them around, when really I was just walking around my area looking for products put out of place.
