I use excel and separate by shadow, pigment, blushes, brushes and Paints. My family made fun of me now I can tell them that I'm not the only one, plus now I have some new catogories to add, like skin care and wish list.

i have used microsoft database in the past because i have truly never understood excel. i think i need to go through the tutorial on how to use excel. but i have also kept a hold of all of my receipts. i can only think of two times that i bought the same shade. once because i guess i was having a non-thinking moment or it may have been re-released into another collection and the second time was when one of my eyeshadows fell off the bathroom sink counter and broke hard and i had to replace it. is it really hard to use microsoft excel?

Heehee you gals made me do it! It's only 20 items long lol, but hopefully more to come!

I wrote it in Excel, colums go like this:

Purpose (eyes, lips, cheeks...) - Product's name - Hue/shade description - Quantity - Date of purchase - Personal opinion (rating, would i buy again, what do i think of it, notes)

I should probably add pictures too, before my collection goes bananas
lmao.gif
I deliberately left out the price/cost... it is make up, and it's mac which makes it priceless
lol.gif
I don't wanna take a look at the list in a few years and go geeeez Moxy and faint! No regrets with MAC

Rushc6 - how did you get the pictures into your Excel document? I love that idea but can't figure out how to do it since I can't copy the pictures

I use the "Print Screen" button on the key board and paste it into MS Paint and then crop it from there. It is very time consuming, but I don't know what else to use. HTH

I keep a spreadsheet in excel with different worksheets for each different product. My columns are Name, Description, Finish, date purchased, cost, where purchased, if it has been depotted (eyeshadows), collection, and any notes.

So far, I have done this for my eyeshadows and started on my pigments. With over 75 eyeshadows and 50 pigments, it has been a chore already.

I have also done a list of all permenant e/s and started working on LE and DC e/s.

This may sound type-A, but I just started with MAC back in September and this is how I've started tracking it. Obviously, this won't work for those who have lots of older LE product... but this is my way.

I have a folder on my desktop named MAKEUP. Inside are folders for eyes, lips, etc. Then I have paint files with the items I have. So in my "eyes" folder, I have paint files called FullPigments, SamplePigments, EyeshadowPots, Liners, Paints. So my FullPigment paint file has a part of the MAC stock photo for the item (from MAC website) and MAC's description as well as an extra tag that I add if it's from a LE collection, like "Rushmetal 07-07".

Anyway, it seems to be working good for me because all I've got locally are Macy's counters (mine's rarely got more than 8 pigments to see) and the nearest freestanding MAC counter is two hours away. This system, along with all you lovely people who post swatches, is helping me sort of compare color-wise before I make more purchases. And since it's all MAC's photography, I would think it'd have a pretty good baseline as far as how one color compares to another.

One of my files:

I use the one that Tempetlia had thats in Excel. I got it from LJ. It has colums for your stuff and prices and at the top it will give you a collection total. I also have a "notepad" file and it's in my email as a backup, haha.

See screenshot for an example

Unrelated, but Emmy84, I made the icon you're using! I'd totally forgotten all about it; there's a whole series of them that I made a few years ago on LJ. heh

I use Excel for mine. It's all in one file and I have a separate sheet for eyes, lips, cheeks, and tools. Then for each item I list the name, finish, color description, collection (if there is one), retail price, how much I paid (could be less than retail if it was at a CCO, B2M, or a gift).

This helps me keep an eye on my spending and it's a good resource for my hubby if he wants to buy me makeup but not dupes!

I don't have a big collection of MAC products (yet), so I basically know every product I own by heart, but I do keep a Word document with all MAC products just in case. I also keep a seperate document with all my blushes, e/s, lipglosses, fragrances, ect.

I use both Excel and Word to track my inventory. I also have both files stored in my Palm. As soon as I get home from the store I update both files and then hotsync my Palm through DocumentsToGo.

I use Excel to keep track of my spending and the value of my collection. I use one file with two worksheets. One list all my M.A.C. cosemetics, separated by face, eyes and lips and the other worksheet, I use to list all my brushes by their numbers.

And to avoid duplication while shopping, I use Word to list all my inventory (separated by product types). At the top of the list is my wish list. This is the list I check before purchasing any products. Just another tactic to help me control my spending.
