Cheap hollywood-style mirror made with stuff from IKEA

Since the last time I showed my vanity many people have asked me about the mirror, and I thought I would tell you how I made it in a thread of its own.

I wanted a hollywood style mirror in my vanity, but they're really impossible to find, and when you do find them, they cost a fortune. Instead I did something different and much cheaper.

IKEA has a lamp called MUSIK which is similar to the effect you get from a Hollywood mirror.

IKEA | Lighting | Bathroom lighting | MUSIK | Wall lamp

I used a basic Kolja mirror in the same length (24inches) as the MUSIK lamp.

IKEA | Decoration & mirrors | Mirrors | KOLJA | Mirror

I attached it to the wall, and placed one MUSIK lamp on either side of the mirror. You could place one on the top and the bottom as well and get a more dramatic effect.

Hope that helps

Haha thats great DIY. But I have a question about that stool... WHERE DID YOU GET IT? I've been looking for something dramatic and that totally fits the bill!

Thank you so much for posting this! I've been researching on how to do this myself, but this is so much easier than everything I've seen! Very clever!

Thanks again! You're awesome!

That's from Kartell, and it's called La Boheme. It's a stool/small table. They have it in different colours and shapes.

I love it!!!!!!!!!!! Was it hard to install the lighting? I always wanted to put up scones but thought I would have to cut a hole in the wall and mess with the wiring

No not really. I just attached a wire and a standard plug. The wire could easily come out at the end of the lamp and just go down the wall to the wall socket. No problem.

One thing though. It looks on the picture on the IKEA website like there is some sort of round plate on the back. There wasn't on mine. I'm not sure if it is something on the wall or if it's a part they have added to the lamp. Be sure to check it out.

Hey!! I went to Ikea yesterday and got all my things and its almost done. The only thing I have to do is get the wires and plug. I am soooo excited to see everything organized and completed. One more question about the wiring....Ok I got the lamps and in the back there are 3 wires total, 2 at the top and one at the bottom. When you say that you just connected a wire and a plug did you remove one of those wires? I am sorry if I am asking a stupid question but I seriously am lost
