Elective C-Sections?

I think that's the right term?

Well I want to know from you ladies what your feelings and thoughts are on choosing to give birth by C-section rather than vaginally. I don't know much on this but have heard that it is optional depending on the doctor the woman is seeing.

Now, I'm not pregnant and hopefully won't be having any kids til I'm older and better prepared! But ever since I've learned what all happens during vaginal deliveries, it has gotten me completely freaked out about it. I'm a wuss when it comes to pain too, I just simply can't deal with it. I have had friends explain to me how a C-section is considered a major surgery and how you'll have to be bedridden for x amount of time and all this other stuff. I'm sorry I'd rather deal with that than have a baby come out of me the other way

there is such a long list of things that can go wrong with being cut open and having surgery - I personally would be wary of any doctor that put her patient through that without a valid medical reason. and for the baby - the trip down the birth canal does very important things such as help expel fluid fromthe lungs.....plus, after knowing two people closely that had to have c sections, I would never volunteer to do it because it hurts. a lot. I was up and walking after having both my kids - not an option after surgery on your abdomen.......

lol well iv had both sort of!im 24 and i have two boyz.I tried vaginally for 18 hours and i pushed for 20 mins but i was only dilated 7 cm.So then i had to have emergency c section.i would have c section then vaginal birth anytime.i dunno how it feels to have a baby come out but the contractions was just enough for me and 18 hours?i cant ever tell u how horrible it was.so with my seecond the docters told me i could try naturally again but i went with c section again.personally second time around it was hard.maybethe firt time i was already in so much pain that the c section didnt make a diff but the second time i was totally normal goin in for a major surgery.first week was very painful and hard but i was on my feet after one week. Now my sister had a baby girl and vaginally in 5 hours with no tears n cuts but now shes in so much problem down below she would rather have a c section.so i think it depends.

I've heard a ton about the horrible pain and difficulties during and afterward regarding both vaginal and C-section deliveries. Both scare the living crap out of me! But I'd so much prefer to go under the knife. I think a lot of it has to do with me psychologically. I am utterly afraid of any type of pain period. I refuse to even get blood work done unless its absolutely necessary even to this day.

I remember my mother mentioning to my how her giving birth to me was. And yeah the story wasn't good. She was in tears and in so much pain and was begging the doctor to please just perform a C-section on her, I already had my umbilical cord wrapped around my neck cause my little ass couldn't help but keep squirming around in her belly lol. She didn't receive any type of pain medicine either. She told me that they don't allow any type of pain medication to be given to the woman during delivery in China unless she was going in for a C-section. My cousin who also lives in and gave birth in China had a similar experience and yeah...not good!

There are dangers, advantages, and disadvantages for both vaginal and c-section births. Vaginal delivery is natural and there are probably less risks, and more benefits, but it's an option; just like breastfeeding or bottle feeding.

I had a c-section with my daughter, even though I wanted to deliver vaginally. I was upset, scared, and sad about it for a while; but not anymore. Now that I've delivered one child that way, I plan to do the same for any future children.

Your child, your choice.

I'm glad that it is an option if I ever do get pregnant in the future. Hopefully by then they'll have even better medical advances made that make it safer or more comfortable?

I've spoken to friends, some who have had babies and others who haven't. They are all shocked

whenever I tell them I'd opt for a C-section rather than vaginal delivery. I don't want to sound immature or stupid or anything but the idea of something quite large compared to my actually vaginal opening coming out of it frightens me. Plus the pain of being in labor, the epidural is not enough!

Honestly, i think i would opt for a C section when my time comes. Yes it may be unnecessary surgery, but do i honestly want to possibly go through a 30 hour labor only maybe to have to have a c section anyway? or have my baby come out with the cord around their neck (like myself) or backwards (like my brother) or sideways. I realize the pain and everything involved in a c section, and i know that i can deal.
And most doctors will let a woman decide if she'll give birth vaginally or with a c section now, it's not just the sketchy ones. Of course most will probably try to discourage you, but it's probably more convenient for them too. Scheduling a c section sounds pretty appealing as oppose to late night panic. I mean, child birth has to be scary enough.I'd do what i can to make it less scary. Less scary for me is surgery.

A c-section is more convenient for doctors because there are less complications and so there's less risk for them but it's not necessarily better for the woman all the time. You'll have body issues no matter what, it's what pregnancy does to your body. It'll be harder to get a flat stomach back if you get a c-seciton though.

The thought of going under the knife is not a pleasant thought for me at all either. But still I'd choose that instead despite my fears and maybe a rough recovery. My fear of giving birth is probably going to some how psychologically make a vaginal birth difficult period. It's like the whole mind over matter thing, a lot of stuff mentally can affect you physically. Don't hate me but I wouldn't even mind being knocked out completely with anesthesia during the C-section to calm my nerves regarding giving birth and going under the knife both at the same time.

I too was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around my neck, I ended up being okay though but what if my mom hadn't given birth to me in time? Who knows what could of happened?

Yes, I have heard all about the after C-section "pooch" that woman get on there bellies. It's from the muscle being cut, I think?

I think that my body isn't gonna be so nice looking afterward either way since I scar very easily, and am super prone to stretchmarks also

im lucky. i dont scar much. I hope my muscle heals well. But the same thing can happen to women who give birth vaginally. The muscles just get really stretched. You see it all the time in tummy tucks, that they have to put the muscle back together so to speak.

one good thing about a c section, if you get a tummy tuck, they can kinda of use the same "scar" if you will. It actually gets cut away, but you know what i mean.

My belly is fuuuuuucked up, STILL, my daughter will be 2 in a few weeks. I wouldn't blame that on the c-section completely though, I'd blame it on me being lazy LOL My stretch marks are really bad too, but I've had issues with those since puberty.

With the whole c-section vs. vaginal, I used to really believe that vaginal was the only way to go. I had a bit of a difficult pregnancy, and if I told you my labor and delivery story you'd tie your tubes up QUICK. When it all comes down to it, my daughter is a very healthy, happy and beautiful little girl. It hurt for a little while afterward, and I have flab, but I'm great! C-sections are not the devil, like some really pro vaginal people would have you think. And vaginal is not the devil either, as some must-have-epi-or-csection people might have you think LOL

I've always thought I'd opt for a C-Section because surgery is less scary to me, for some reason. I know the recovery time is longer, but that doesn't bother me. And as selfish as it might sound, I like the idea of scheduling the birth when it's convenient (not just for me, but for my family and the doctor).

I don't have that pooch.
I had three sections...two were elective. Vaginal birth horrifies me...and given my health situation they didn't want to risk uterine rupture anyway, so c-sections it was for me.

Easy recovery, all three of them, within a week. The strength takes a lot longer to come back after a c-section, I admit that, but otherwise, I can't complain.

I had a c section after 15 hours of labor, thank the lord. My son was 10 pounds and I'm small!
I did however walk stooped over for about 2 weeks, but not a big deal.

I would not recommend an elective c-section to anyone. I am currently facing a future of bed rest because I am at a severe risk of a uterine rupture because I've had 3 c-sections. I will be having EVERYTHING in that region removed when this baby is delivered because I cannot possibly risk becoming pregnant again.

In the hospital of my town they do C-section almost only in case of emergency or in case of problems with the baby position in the womb, health of the mother and so on and i know it's the suggested policy in every hospital, though in the end the mother is free to choose...don't know the situation in the US...
My aunt had both my cousins with c-section cause they both were in an upside down position in the womb and one of them had also the umbilical cord around his neck. She had pain both times, needed to stay in hospital several days to recover and the scar is still visible. Plus you can't breastfeed them in most of the cases.
I never heard of women who did the c-section voluntarily (though i know they exist), but if the deliver-pains scares you i think that epidural anesthesia is way better. I'm scared by pain too, and i think that when my moment to have a baby will come (hope in no less than 5 or 6 years LOL) i'll probably choose it. Years ago it was a kind of risky anesthesia, because it involves an injection in your spine, but nowadays is very popular and many women choose to do it, since you can enjoy a natural delivery without all the pain associated to it.

So with you on being shit-scared either way, 4bidden. Particularly when 'tearing' is mentioned. I phase out about then.

I scar sooo easily! I think I'm more frightened about what birth would do to my vagina rather than my belly. Some not so great things happened when I was very young and that may contribute to my fear. Theres a lot of other factors too that play into that also.

I've seen some really good after results on tummy tuck procedures. Does anyone watch Jon & Kate Plus 8? Well I think about a year or two after giving birth to 6 kids, Kate went and got a tummy tuck and the before and afters are just freaking amazing! Now I won't expect every tummy tuck to come out that great but so far I've seen some great results. Do most woman who get tummy tucks get them after C-sections?

I don't think my belly would look all that hot after a C-section especially if I had a baby now. My belly right now needs A LOT of work done, I need to start hitting the stationary bike, treadmill, and do some crunches lol. I just keep stuffing my face with food cause food is yummy but never do as much phsyical activity to eat up all those excess calories haha.

Ahh, pregnancy horror stories, I've heard tons of them! Each story just sounds worst than the one before
nope.gif
. I've known 2 girls, one who was about a year or two younger than me and the other one was a few months older than me. They both had pretty difficult pregnancies. The girl who was younger than me had a dream the night before her delivery that she was going to bleed to death
shockt.gif
. I guess there was a lot of tearing whenever she gave birth vaginally the next day cause she just kept on bleeding for awhile. Her second pregnancy she ended up giving a few months before her due date but I heard the baby is doing alright though. The other girl had trouble pushing the baby out once it reached the shoulders and they kept trying to get it to come out for a bit before resorting to giving her an episiotomy. All she could tell me about it was how painful and awful that was on top of being in labor and giving birth. But both of them love their babies very much and don't regret anything that happened during delivery despite the pain and trouble.

I totally get you on having it "scheduled". I hate surprises of any kind. I like knowing things for certain like when the day of my baby's due date for sure will be (unless something comes up before then and I'll have to have it a bit earlier).

You are one lucky woman! Like I said my belly won't be looking so hot after a C-section or pregnancy probably

Aren't uterine ruptures more likely to happen durin VBACs? My teacher told us about her C-section and how it use to be back in the day, practically impossible to do a VBAC but now there starting to allow it more depending on the woman and situation. But that it does have a bit of a higher risk with uterine ruptures.

Everyone use to think I was crazy whenever the talk of babies would come up and I would tell them that I'd completely freak out if I had to do a vaginal birth and would instead rather get a C-section done.

I'm very tiny too and so is my mom. I would of felt so horribly bad for her if my brother and I would of weighed over the 6 lbs I think it was and some odd ounces!

Aww, I'm very sorry hun. That sounds sooo scary and I hope things will be okay. I wish the best for you during your pregnancy, delivery and recovery!

Where I was born and where my mom was from in China, C-sections weren't very common unless it was absolutely necessary. They encourage vaginal birth over anything else. Though my cousin's wife ended up having a C-section done because of how big the baby was and I'm assuming had an EXTREMELY difficult time trying to give birth vaginally or else they wouldn't of made the decision to let her have the C-section.

I don't know any woman either in real life who have opted for a C-section either. Practically all of them did it vaginally and I'm just like wow..you must be some brave woman!

Any mentioning of tearing down there no matter what it's from does not sound pleasant to me whatsoever!

During Child Development class during my senior year in high school, my teacher was going to make us watch a film with a vaginal delivery being show. Thank goodness I was not there that day! I would of ran out the door before they even popped that tape into the VCR. I know for a fact that the other teacher in the room (whose a guy and wasn't present at any of his kid's deliveries due to him being in the military) bolted out the door when they started playing the video!
