makeup for new mums

hi guys!

I'm going to try to conceive my first in a few months so have been trawling the pregnancy/parenting forums for info on what to do and what to expect.

I came across a thread asking if new mums still wore makeup on a regular basis other than special occasions.. the consensus was that almost none of them still do, and most were rather proud of the fact that they didn't own any m/u at all! LOL

I thought it quite funny, and wonder if the community over here is the same.

So my question to all the mums out there, do you still wear makeup?

I think it depends on the mom. I have always worn makeup -- it is something I like to do for myself and just makes me feel better

Even with new babies, I would get ready while they were sleeping - it just gave me a boost. But I definitely understand that a lot of new moms are overwhelmed and sleep deprived and might not have the time.
You'll have to do what works for you and helps you to get through the day! Best of luck to you!

I talk about this with other moms on my community as well and a lot of them barely have time for makeup anymore

I was on a makeup hiatus as I had 2 babies back to back and seriously had no time to put on makeup as I'd usually do. Now that my girls are 2&3 yrs old I a little more time for myself. But I do still own makeup and do still put makeup on. I think it makes me feel good about myself even If I just put blush on lol

thanks for all your replies!

I guess it was just the community on that forum, the non- makeup wearing mums were kind of shooting the makeup wearing ones down for being vain or something.

You guys have given me hope that there is some kind of chance that I'll retain some of who I am now after I have a baby. Makeup is such a huge part of who I am, I couldn't imagine giving it up completely!

I don't understand how a new mom wearing makeup is any more vain than a non-mom wearing makeup? lol...get off your other community cause they sound like hippies

we're all nice! hehe

but really i think that it shouldn't matter if you are a mom and wear make-up or not.. it's really preference! i do love wearing make up though when i can!

Hell yeah i love my make up , it makes me feel well put together and is good for my confidence. I don't get as long to spend doing it but i would say i wear the same amount if not more. I have the odd day where i don't bother if lounging around the house but doesn't everyone.

I still stuck to the basics, which for me is foundation, mascara, lip gloss and hair done every time I left the house (home days - different story) but I do remember always getting asked about it (how do I find the time ra ra ra- shouldn't I have been pureeing some pumpkin or something) at playgroup and for a while I think i had a bit of a complex about it .But the great thing about having kids is that you realise pretty fast that all things you used to worry about barely register on your radar now.

My one major concession was my acrylic nails. I was adamant that i was keeping them but the day after I got out of the hospital I took them straight off - I was too scared I was going to scratch the tiny one.

Oh and I should add that some days when you are wearing Eau de Baby Vomit and feeling completly lousy just looking at all those pretty bottles and tubes of girly goodness can really make you feel better.

Good luck with everything, I hope it all goes smoothly for you.

This is totally me as well. (But with only one little one) I disappeared from the makeup counters for about 3 years-- it's like coming back home haha. While I was pregnant, I actually tossed A LOT of my collection. I could kick myself now, I really thought then that I'd NEVER have time to put on makeup again so I pitched it. Now, it's rushed sometimes, but it is something that makes me feel a little more like my own person than my daughter's personal attendant. Love her more than words, but she can be a little demanding and impatient when it comes to mommy getting ready.

I still wear makeup when going out somewhere, but if just running down to coles I will just chuck some mascara on and that's it.

I've found that I haven't really gone out much in the last 4 weeks so not much of a call for it lol.

Sounds like you were on essential baby Sal
