How many swipes does it take to hit pan on an eyeshadow? I don't know why this question just popped into my head, but I'd like to know.....or at least get some good guesses.
haha this reminds me of the "how many licks does it take to get to the tootsie roll center of a toosie pop?" ad. I don't think there is any definitive answer for this one.
In all of my 26 years, I have yet to hit the pan of any eyeshadow. The one I am closest to is Trish McEvoy's Quartz, and I've been using it for the past 5 years.
I JUST hit pan on vanilla e/s. I've had it a little less than a year, used it almost every day, never chipped it and just the smallest smidge is showing.
no wait~ let's do math.
Let's say roughly 4 out of 7 days, 4 swipes to do both eyes.
I got it while I was working for Macy's, so let's say February 1.
That's 41 weeks, times 16 swipes= 656 swipes to get to the bottom.
i find that when i use my finger [aka when im in a rush haha] it uses up alot more eyeshadow faster beacuse you applying more pressure and intern loading more shadow i think brushes really conserve eyeshadow alot better esp if you use light swipes against it and not a whole lot of pressure
so to ansewr your question it all depends on the person
There could never be a set number of swipes. There are too many variables, like how heavy handed the person swiping is, the finish of the shadow (some are softer than others). My first thought when I read the question was about the Tootsie Pops, too!
LOTS! all i know is that i use my shroom heavy-handedly daily. i've had it for quite a while (i'd say at least 9 months) and it has a significant dip, but there's still no pan showing!
I'm currently on my third jest, it seems to hit pan quite quickly, and on my second brule, but those would be my base colours so get used way more often than the others
it takes a while. i have only used up 3 eyeshadows in about 2 1/2 years and im just starting to hit the pan (a small part, like a dip) in another one now
I've hit pan on 2 of my eyeshadows, Naked Lunch and Seedy Pearl. I do use NL frequently and there is a lot of pan showing. As for SP, I think it is just because I tend to swipe from the same spot, as there is still a lot of product in the pan. Now blushes are a different story, of the 4 MAC blushes I own, I've hit pan on 3.
I hit pan on waternymph in about 4 months...but I cheat because I freelance and girls choose it allll the time for fun looks. the fastest I've ever gone through anything is 2 years for tan pigment.

That is exactly what I thought of when I saw this....
I just recently hit the bottom of my brule and I've that that sucker for a while...I'd say about a year and a half. I use it about maybe 3 times a week so I dont know how many swipes...you do the math
