What to pair with brown lipstick?

I've got MAC's O and Shag but everytime I try to go use them, I feel like i've stepped back into the 90's...Any tips on how to modernize brown lipsticks? Like I don't even know what kind of eyeshadow to try...

You could use a lighter gloss over them. I recently posted a FOTD with brown lipstick and a lighter brown gloss. I've found that Oyster Girl and Nymphette are also very good with brown lipsticks.

O is such a hot shade, pair it with neutral eyes and glowey cheeks. You won't look 90's at all. All That Glitters e/s and Honour blush are my favs to wear with it. Brown lipstick just looks dated with matte eye/cheek shades IMO.

I love O with Half Red lipliner- doesn't look dated at all!
