Working for Sephora

Hey Karla,
The process took about a week for me. I turned in my application at the job fair on a Thursday, got a call the next day Friday, and got my first and last interview on Saturday. Then the Saturday after that is when I got the call. However, I know the hiring process is different for everybody.

Thanks for the reply! Well its been a little over a week and she was very specific bybtellung me that it was going to take no longer than that for her to get the district managers approval and call my references. Still nothing. Should I call by next Monday if I still haven't heard anything from her? I just really don't want to bother her or anything. I'm just thinking "what if they changed their mind" from the looks of it, everything was great you know?

I have an interview tomorrow with Sephora! for a Color specialist. I am curious of what some of the questions might be in the interview and what are some specific responsibilities of a Color specialist? I have been in the beauty industry for about 11 years and this will be my first time in corporate management! Any info is greatly appreciated!!

@JezzIt,
I just started at Sephora, and I know a color lead is responsible for basically being the go-to person when it comes to anything "makeup" in the store. At our store we have a color lead, a skincare lead, fragrance lead, operations lead etc. We also have what you call a "Beauty Studio Captain" who is in charge of actually applying makeup for our clients at the beauty studio. If you don't know what the beauty studio is, it is basically the big vanity in the middle of the store where you can get your makeup done. We have an express makeup application which is a basic makeup application to either your skin, eyes, lips etc. and we also have a full on makeup application where you have to purchase a minimum amount of products from the store.

So you are basically manager when it come the world of color at Sephora. I believe you have be knowledgeable about our makeup products so you can help out and sell makeup products to client, fill them in with knowledge about makeup products. Also, you're responsible for sharing your knowledge for your fellow sephora team mates. You wanna serve as a mentor to those who wish to be in color as well :) I'm not one hundred percent about the actual job description, but in your interview make sure you fill them in about your knowledge about products that sephora carries, and also how you also want to gain more knowledge as well and learn from other leads. Also make sure to let them know you want to inspire others when it comes to color; clients AND other cast members. You wanna be their leader, their mentor, and be able to answer any of their questions. Working at Sephora, I've learned that the company is very team oriented and we value teamwork and using teamwork to serve our clientele. So show them that you are a team player, but at the same time show them how you can be a great leader.

Thats pretty much all I have for now, I hope it helps. If you have further questions, ask away :)

Yay!! I got the job!!
I was hired into operations I realize now that I will be doing a lot of just restocking but is that all that operations does? If anyone is in operations now I would love to know what your daily routine is at work.
Also if I ever wanted to move into a different position like color or cashier or something does the store normally let that happen?

Do you know what health insurance company Sephora go's threw? Honestly that only thing that's holding me back from applying is not knowing. I have heard so many good things about this company.

If you could give me any information that would be amazing! <3

Hi everyone!
I have recently joined this website because I love everything about make up. At the moment I work at a restaurant, been in the restaurant business for almost 7 years. I work in it for the fast money, but I want to work at Sephora because I feel like I would actually enjoy it. I don't have any retail experience. I am in school for business, and my ultimate goal is to work for a big make up company. I don't plan on applying for Sephora til Nov/Dec, I'm trying to save up money for a new car. So I have a couple of questions. Will I even have a shot since I have no experience in makeup/retail? Although I am passionate about it, know the brands/look at reviews/youtube videos. How much does Sephora usually pay? even if it's just a cashier position? And If I do just get hired for cashier how soon can I move up? And one last thing, how flexible are they with your schedule? I'll be in school so I will probably be only to work on the weekends.
Thanks a lot guys.

Woo. First post.

Ahem. I work at Sephora, here's what I can tell you:

Without knowing the specific salaries, I can make an educated guess that if you are Colour Lead you WILL be taking a paycut. I imagine they wouldn't pay more than about 16-18$ hourly. But this all depends on the budget of your store. Bear in mind you will make bonuses every month if your store performs well so that will add to your monthly takehome amount.

For cashiers, regular cast members, seasonals etc expect typical retail wages. Better than minimum wage but not anything special. Its a retail job after all. Again, everyone bonuses if you do well, which at Christmas time and the later months you do.

Benefits I can't speak for other countries or the USA but in Canada it's by Standard Life.

Pay cut. If you want to be making around that you could always try MAC, but Sephora does not pay very well from what I hear/have researched.

I just joined the board now and hoping to get "connect" with other makeup lovers on this site. I recently get hired at Sephora (SiJCP) as a Product Consultant since a part time job works best for me now with young kids. It's a completely new JCP store inside the mall. I can't tell you how much I love the company as a whole and my team as an individual as they all are great supporters. I have had a wealth of knowledge about the beauty industry and how to run a beauty services business. Because of that, I would love to growth within the company when the time is right for me. As of now, I feel a bit too early to ask my boss for moving up position but I would love to do my "homework" before hand. I'm glad knowing that you're a Beauty Leader and wonder if you don't mind advising me about some different positions at SiJCP?

First, what are all different positions starting from a Product Consultant. Their responsibilities, pay rates and expectation of working hours as well as traveling involvements? I understand this is a very broad question but any of your input would much appreciated as it sketches my vision to what I'm moving forward to. Thank you

@ Cleopatranton. Your information is completely incorrect. JCP does not own Sephora or have exclusive rights to the Sephora shop inside their JCP stores. The employees of Sephora does NOT work for JCP. In fact JCP and Sephora have a contract, where in which JCP will make a space in their stores for Sephora, that is an initiative to drive businesses for both JCP and Sephora. Both employees of Sephora and JCP receives a 25% associate discount in each store. You can also use your JCP card to make purchases in Sephora.
