Does anyone here work in the cosmetics department at nordstrom? I'm aiming for M.A.C. of course but anything will do right now. I have interviewed with nordies a bunch of times in the past and never got the job. Does anyone have any advice on how I can get the job? Since I'm interviewing for the cosmetics department should i wear all black? How should I do my makeup?

I finally got hired by nordstrom last week, I interviewed over and over and finally got my sales surpassing the current employees and they hired me. (I freelance for MAC and work at nordstrom every now and again) you just have to be very sales goal centered and be willing to keep trying

I didnt want to start a new thread so I guess I will post my question here too as well.
About three weeks ago I applied to nordstrom and since i always get the "we dont want you" letter lol, I went to the store to speak to some one in HR all done up of course. She told me to call her so i did, we did a phone interview and a week later she called me back (today) and told me to come in for a face to face tuesday! I am so excited but really nervous, i am hoping to get in at MAC of course but any counter would be amazing til I can scoot over lol. Obviously she must have liked something I said to call me back but now I was wondering if anyone could help me with what kinds of questions they ask ( Im sure ill get ton of, ...tell me a time when you...) questions. Is there anything else I should know? I know that Nords is big on selling and customer service so I will probably push more about that and hopefully my personality will show through and I dont get nervous! Please help me! :)

Nordstrom demands so much from their employees. The company expects you to maintain your sales per hour, open rewards (solicit credit card accounts), and push preselling for Nordstrom and Cosmetic Department events in addition to your daily counter duties and expectations. That's not for everyone. A big plus is that if you perform well, one does get to advance to cosmetic lines that are more challenging.

During your interview, don't be afraid to ask questions regarding the topics I mentioned earler. Do tell them what your goals are and what you have to offer to the Nordstrom company and to the department. When/if the department manager tells you what positions are available in the department, ask if there will be a make up test or interview with the territorial manager of the cosmetic line you're applying for. That way you'll be a few steps ahead of the game and have time to prepare accordingly.

Good luck!
