Working for Clinique

This is a bit long. I'm in the process of applying for parttime with Clinique at Younkers for counter sales. Had first interview. Second scheduled next week.
Anyway, several weeks agao, I had also sent a resume directly to Clinique.
I got a call today from a different Younkers about 10 miles away saying Clinique forwarded my resume to them for a counter managers position.

Looking over my resume, I not quite sure what they saw in it to reccomend me for that. I am an administrative assistant who also does some counter sales at the business I work for. I have never had anyone under me as the businesses I have worked for were all very small and I was pretty much their main employee.
I did sell Mary Kay for a while, but I have not been in a position where I had to big time push counter sales or a team.
Anyway, I am kind of dumbstruck about this. As the HR for Younkers told me what the job entails, it is a lot of responsibility, but it is something that I know I can do with the proper training.
I looked up the description on the Clinique site and I would love it. BUT, I don't have management experience.
I explained to the HR from Younkers that called that I was in the interview process for part time counte sales at another location for Clinique, but I would love to come in at speak to him more.

Any thoughts, suggestions? I'm thinking Clinique thinks I am more qualified than I am. I mean I know I can do it, but I would need alot of training. They are not going to get expereinced management material here.
I am excited, nervous and scared and shocked.

Re: Clinique counter manager??

Yeah Clinique does and doesn't train you for management, you'll go to a seminar a couple times of year and then you have meeting a couple of times a year too. They always like to think anyone is qualified to run a counter. Like I'm a part timer for them right now and whenever a counter manager spot opens they always want me to do it but it's just too much unnessary stress for me, that and I'm at school full time. But it depends on the counter and how many people you have and such. I work at a smaller store so it's more laid back but if it's a bigger store with lots of traffic than it can get stressful. But do what you feel would be best for you, you can always start off part time to get the hang of things and move up later on, Clinique does a lot of extensive training for their consultants as far as product education goes so you'll be good there but the management part is what will be alittle tricky since they don't extensive training on that. Best of luck and feel free to ask any other questions!

Re: Clinique counter manager??

Can you tell me more about what the counter manager does and what type of pressure they have on them? The HR for Younkers aid it is almost like running your own business, setting your own hours, etc. I don't understand how it all works and how hard or how much responsibility it is.
Does Clinique pay for your training and transportaion to ther seminars and stuff?

Re: Clinique counter manager??

Well they do a lot of tasks, there's paperwork (not sure how much or what it is exactly), can be pretty stressful at times because you have to make a goal when you do pre-sells for gift, you have to book appointments for events for like gift-with-visit for example, create events to draw business in, make your everyday numbers, etc. But how much stress really depends on the counter and the traffic, our counter isn't a high volume store so our stress is pretty low compared to others. The make your own hours is a lie considering Macy's (who I work for) are the ones that make your schedule but it may vary since your under a different dept store. Clinique provides food during seminars and you have a paid business day from the dept store, but as far as transportation goes that might vary too depending on how far you have to travel. We do not get reinbursed from Macy's or Clinique for traveling to our seminar since it's only 30-45 minutes away, well they pay us back for the parking but that's it. However I know there were ladies from either Louisiana or like people from a couple hours out that got to stay in a hotel room paid from Clinique so it will just depend on the location. I'll give you more of an update tomorrow when I go back to work and I'll ask my counter manager some more so I can get you more details! Hope this helps some!

Re: Clinique counter manager??

Yeah when I followed up with my boss she didn't say much but that it depends on what store you are as to if it is stressful or not, I tried to ask about other things but we had a busy day so I'll try and gather more info!

Re: Clinique counter manager??

I work at Dillards and I applied for a clinique business manager position. I interviewed with the account executive and also had a talent plus interview on the phone the day after the interview. The woman on the phone told me that the next step would be to hear from my manager. It has been 10 days since my talent plus interview and I haven't heard from her. How long does it take to get a reply? Do you think I passed the interviews? What is taking so long? I would also like to know how much does a clinique business manager make? When you are hired do you start work right away or do you go to the courses first?

Thank you!

So thursday I have an interview for a position as beauty advisor at Macy's clinique counter...now im scurred. I love makeup and have been really heavily getting into mac and makeup application in general...I also plan on starting cosmetology school in Jan. Of course my first choice wouldve been MAC but they never called
smiles.gif
Not to say I dont like Clinique I do I love their skincare/mascara...however I really dont have retail/cosmetice experience...my last job was as a office assistant. I held that job for 9yrs as I went to school for my bachelors in education(90+hrs), so I have some smarts about me lol
winks.gif

However I just moved to Hawaii bc my husband is stationed here. Moving to Hawaii has really put a damper on my bachelor in teaching plans bc the Uof H requirements would cause me to go to school for at least 2 more years basically retaking half of my credits again plus my student teaching...I only have a semester of classes left in Texas so im putting it off til we return... hence the going to cosmetology school (always wanted to anyways)! Im really nervous about what to expect in the interview... Anyone have any experience or tips?

Re: Interview at clinique! Help pls..

Interviewing with Clinique is actually not too bad. I work for them right now, and at a Macy's too! Clinique themselves are awesome, they take care of their people, however on the Macy's side it really sucks. I want to quit there so bad right now but I can't find other work at the moment (boy have I've been trying!). With the way the interview process goes you interview with the counter manager, then the department manager, and then you interview and have a talent-plus with the account executive or coordinator from Clinique. And basically it's just questions about yourself and your experience, and/or what you can bring to Clinique. So it's nothing to fret over just take a deep breath and be yourself! They only ask you those questions so they can get a feel for who you are and where you would fit in to the company. And the reason I say Macy's sucks is that they pressure their associates wayyy too much to open credit cards. That and the holiday hours suck hardcore I don't know what hours you might have but holiday hours will range from 7am-12am. We now have these 'scorecards' that basically grade us on sales and credits which I think is crap. I do great in sales (I'm a top performer) but I don't push credit cards like they want me to so I get knocked A LOT for that. And it sucks because they threaten to write you up over it for not opening credits which is totally lame...but anyways... The pay is so-so but as they are hurting some right now don't expect a whole lot. You will get commission but I'm not sure if it varies from store to store or not, I know in my store I get 3%. I'm sorry this is so long but I hope this helps you out, let me know if you have any other questions!

Re: Interview at clinique! Help pls..

you will be okay, i got hired for clinque but i turned it down because it was at a macys and the macys gave me such a hard time to even go through the hiring process (plus this was only for a part-time job). the interview process went pretty smoothly, good luck and keep us posted

I bought a face cream over a month ago that makes my skin feel like rubber and dries it out horribly. I've been very busy and haven't had time to travel back up there and return it so the 30 day return period has passed. I called and the counter girl was kinda confusing. She said "You can always return it just bring it back and the computer will tell us if it's been 30 days or not and whether you get a refund or credit"

So does that mean I can return it within in 60 days and still get my $40 back just in credit to buy something else from there? Or will I not be able to return it at all? I just hate to drive all the way up there and look stupid with something way past the return date!

Which department store did you buy it from, and also which face cream product was it? I might be able to pin point what it was that gave your skin a reaction.

If you bought it from macys, you have 180 days to return it with the box (with return sticker) and receipt. If it was another department store I am not aware of the return policies there. I work for clinique at macys.

Exactly what she said! I work for Clinique at Macy's also! But I'm here in Dallas, nice to have another consultant around!

Applied at Clinique (a few questions...)

So, I applied at a Clinique counter here in Vancouver. It required me to either email my resume, or go and drop it off in person. So, I wrote up what I thought was a really good cover letter and I dropped it off in person and though the girl hiring wasn't there, I did speak to another manager and was asked a few questions. It seemed really good.

Now my questions.. or question..

Its been maybe 4-5 days since I dropped off my resume. I wanted to follow up.. How should I do so? I've never followed up to a resume drop off.. But I would really like this job so I think I'd be a good idea.

Since its a counter should I go there and talk to them?
Call?
Email?

I don't even know what to say on a follow up type thing.. So any help would be nice!!

I hope they call before though..

Congrats!
For clinique I would suggest a pretty "prime look" makeup. Nothing overboard... just keep clean =)
