MAC - MAC Me Over Discussion

Just came back from my counter....swatched Lady Grey Quad. Although it's pigmented, I feel like we have seen these colors before, so it was not a must have to buy. The other quad sucked! It hardly swatched at all. I ended up picking up creamy bisque. Definitely has a pretty pink sheen that doesnt translate well in pictures. It looks good on my NC42 skin. Thanks to Shontay for enabling this....I would have never bought this color if you didn't mention how pretty it is. Definitely a keeper! I also took a look at the 226 brush. My counter only had 4 in stock. All 4 looked completely different from each other, some more tapered than others. I picked out the most tapered one and by the time I left, another gal swooped in and bought the remaining 3 brushes. So stock is definitely limited at stores/counters. Hope everyone will be able to get this brush if you are lemming for it. I compared this new 226 brush to my previous 226 I bought and thankfully it does look similar. And definitely made in France. I have nothing against things made in China...just my personal thing that I try to avoid things made in China when possible. Is it me or does Mac seem to make some of these LE items like the 226 brush extremely difficult to obtain? It's like they purposely make limited quantities of things so they sell out quicker. I'm kind of getting tired of it and the hype. We shouldn't have to stalk the website or go first thing at the store/counter. They should make enough for everyone so everyone can enjoy. I guess it's a case of supply and demand. Hope everyone gets what they want at the stores/counters!

It was a f/s store and I also called the counter near my house and they don't have it either :(
I was thinking of just ordering it but I already have two of them, maybe this is a sign telling me I dont need another one. Or at least that is what I am gonna tell myself haha.

Oh no. Was this a f/s store or a counter? Somebody posted earlier that Dillards, Macy's and Bloomies have now the 226, so if you want one, you might place an order there.

Got a small haul at a freestanding store on my lunch break. It was a bit hurried, so I didn't have too much time to think. I ended up getting:

  • Creamy Bisque
  • Midnight Blues and Dark Envy (my first fluidlines)
  • 208 brush to apply the fluidlines
  • 226 brush (they had a handful of them when I was there)
  • Smoked Purple (too dark for my thin lips, but I smothered it with Bubbles lipstick and it lightened up perfectly)

Also had Lady Grey on my wishlist, and although it is pretty, I don't think I really need it.

Mac-Guy did you see the brushes while you were there? How did they look?

Yes. Mine looks exactly like the previous one and I didn't see any difference in the other 226 they had in stock. Most items seems to be very limited, but the 226 was well stocked (I would say more than 20 items), whereas some of the e/s only were below 5-10 items/piece.

Re demand/supply: if there were large quantities of the 226, probably fewer people would buy as everybody thinks they can purchase it at a later date. A good example is the Styledriven collection, which does not seem to get much love at all. From that point of view, I can understand why MAC limits quantities, because at least it will sell out and people are constantly watching out for new items. Now from a consumer's perspective, it's a different story...

Moleskin es left
Take Root CCB middle
Root CCB right
Avenue liner top

I totally LOVE LOVE Take Root!

Not sure how I feel about Moleskin yet - its a barely there light nude.

Stunner is a beautiful light peachy pink! It shows up on me pretty well.

Try Moleskin over a CCB (Hush, Seaside). It will really make it pop.

Glad to hear that you love Take Root. It's a gorgeous color.

My list was pretty large but I ended up getting more than was on my list.

Original list before I got to the store. (first one yay!)
-226 brush
-lady grey quad
-carbonized
-mythical
-plum fun
-social light
-oh oh oh
-offshoot
-tundra
-street cool
-heirloom

After store visit I added:
-avenue (thanks Elegant)
-dark diversion
-Take Root (thanks Elegant and Mac-Guy)
-211 brush

The 226 was on the display and it was taped down. The SA said every time they launch it, several are stolen. But it looked like the original. Unfortunately, I didn't check the one that I got though. I went to a movie and then I remembered about the 226 brush. It didn't look the same to me. I figured it would be best to go back since I was only a few blocks away from the store. The SA took a bunch of them out of the drawer. They all looked the same to me and I thought maybe my eyes were playing tricks on me. Since the SA said I could return it, I decided to take it home and check it against the one I have. It is not as tapered the one I have so I'm taking it back. That being said, the SA had about 10 boxes in her hand when she went through the brushes and about 6 boxes were still in the drawer. It looked like about 3 brushes were in each box so this store has a ton of them. Now that I think about it, when this brush was first released, I'm pretty sure I went the first day and it was soldout. I had to go to a few stores before I found it. Maybe this is why this store had so many. Now I'm regretting not getting a second on the last time it was released.

Now that I have to go back tomorrow, I'm going to have to take another look at Seaside, Creamy Bisque and Moleskin. Yikes!

The SA was wearing Prince Noir lipstick and it looked really good on her.

Although I bought a bunch of things, I don't think this is a collection that people are going to go crazy over. If I wasn't able to get everything on my list, I would have been fine with it. No must haves, but plenty of nice to haves. Nice basics. I can't see a bunch of sellouts unless Mac limited the stock. I can't see that happening as this is the big fall collection unless Mac wants to create hype. But I could be wrong. We shall see.

P.S. I thought I liked the new paper bag until is started raining. It is completely destroyed. Good think my pocketbook was big enough to hold the mac bag.

Indeed. Plus, if the 226 is such a popular, in-demand brush, why don't they just make it permanent (even if they just made it a permanent PRO product, IMO, that'd be a good step)?

Yeah, from our (consumers') point of view it's very frustrating.

I wore Creamy Bisque in the inner corner today and I really love it. I could actually see the pink in it and that makes it noticeable but not harsh.

Yep, I'm liking Moleskin. Its a great crease color. And, I used it all around my eye, fairly thick rimming under lower lashline, Carbonized smudge over that into lashline & then Avenue in waterline & liner. quite a lovely look.

I just put Off Shoot on. I really like it. It is not a color I would normally go for. But I think it works well with the other eye colors I bought - mainly the lighter colors like the shadesticks and the Lady Grey quad. I thought it looked a bit like one of my Viva Glams but I can't find them. I can only find a backup of VGVI that I have (can you call it a back up if you accidentally bought the same color twice?) and I don't want to swatch it. But Off Shoot is a lot pinker and a touch color and much more opaque on the lips, I guess due to the Cremesheen formula. So warm girls can wear this shade! I will say I would have thought this color would have been for the spring collection or rather I would not have considered it for fall but it really goes well with the light shimmery eye looks. It looks really great with the Chanel Fauve shadow I'm wearing right now.

So I'll have to get back to you on the Street Cool. I'm having a hard time taking off the Chanel color as I'm loving this look right now.

I'm glad I'm hearing good things about Oh Oh Oh. I decided against Offshoot since I already had Gem of Roses. I'm hoping I'll get my order today or tomorrow. At least let me get it before Hurricane Irene storms into NYC and we get flooded. I need my MAC!!!!
