MAC and Iris Aphel Discussion

You know, yesterday the store manager was chatting with me about Lady Danger (since I had Scarlet Ibis on and he loved how it was bringing out my eyes) - that in the past 11 years since it first came out, he probably only sold 10 tubes of it (this is at the highest sales volume store in town), but suddenly it's been flying off the shelves, all because Kourtney Kardashian's worn it on her show a couple of times in a row.

I'm no fan of that Kardashian gang, but they've certainly made a huge mark on makeup trends (hey, Kelly Osbourne doesn't pack the house like these gals, even with her Candy Yum Yum lips). With all this new interest in bright lipstick and the obvious sales trends that have been analyzed from Candy Yum Yum and the Lady Danger uptick, etc., I'm sure there'll be plenty of either Iris Aphel lipsticks replenishing the initial rush or (more probably), based on IA's initial sales, production volume for brights coming out later in the Summer collections will be adjusted up. We're certainly going to see more mattes and more brights and later on, more of these cute, soft pinks like Flamingo (my bet is by the Summer Mineralize collection and the big Fall collection, as well as sprinkled around before then). I think I'm getting used to MAC's modus operandi :p

I just received my lippies and I'm in love! Even my mom loved the colors.

I got my Party Parrot yesterday, and I looove it!
Yeah, it's super bright, but if I blot it, and apply a drop or two of Love Alert Dazzleglass over it, it goes from "loud" to "vibrant and face-brightening."
On the advice of an online artist, I got More To Love pencil to go with it, and it goes *perfectly* with Party Parrot.

I swatched lady danger and scarlet ibis side by side in store and walked out into natural light...no major difference. So, I guess I'm ok w having LD instead of SI. Still sucks that I couldn't b2m for SI cuz I would have had it if so smh

So Party Parrot is very bright & neon? I would think Pink Pigeon would be the brightest and boldest out of the group.

I haven't received my shipment yet. Fingers crossed I receive it tomorrow. PixieDancer maybe you can pat it down a bit or put a lighter color over it so it isn't so intense on you? I think I am more attracted to the colors of the lipsticks than actually wearing them. Once I get mine and wear them I will let you guys know what I think as well.

What bird would be brighter than the parrot who comes to party? I am so glad I ordered this because I missed out on Hibiscus and have been waiting for another lippy in the same color category. You enablers are actually making me regret not getting Pink Pigeon, even though I am on a hot pink lipstick no buy because I have too many in that category. On the one hand, I skipped it because I don't need another and I love Spitfire, I have other colors that are very similar, but I don't have anything hot pink that is a matte, so I am tempted to hunt one down. Can anyone compare Pk Pigeon to Hollywood Nights??? (from Heatherette, I think)

I went into my local Mac today. Whatever shade that looks like Show Orchid is gone. The manager said it flew out of there. I swatched Flamingo and of course I was compelled to buy. The novelty of it and all. He said that one was flying, too. I also bought Howzat and surprisingly, Silver Gull. I thought Howzat would be some Hocus Pocus knockoff, but there's some blue in it on my skin and I like the finish. I don't have anything quite like it. Also, Silver Gull is unique to anything I have. It's soft, shimmery and it seemed very buildable when I patted it on the back of my hand. Hopefully, it'll perform that way on my eye. As for Flamingo, it's pretty. Not a must have for me, but not a regrettable purchase either. I will punch it up with a gloss or maybe a liner.

Scarlet Ibis is much more in the same zone as Hibiscus than Party Parrot, but they're both F.A.B.!!! so you're good. Do you have Rare Exotic Mattene? Because that is extremely close in color and texture to Pink Pigeon - PP is just a bit bluer, but they both are the same brightness, intensity and matte-ness. Very close match.

I totally agree with you on Silver Gull. It's really an excellent cool, light grey for people who usually would have a tough time with cool, light greys and it's quite buildable up to a medium level (I think past that you're going to run into some fall-out issues from the sparkles losing hold due to too much powder buildup. Maybe try that with your heaviest gripping base). I tried it on one eye with the new duo fiber eye brush and it applied very well with that, but other brushes are going to be fine. You've got the Leopard Luxe quad, right? It works just like the medium brown Velvet finish in that one. I almost got it but my haul was frighteningly huge already.

I just bought flamingo and party parrot on eBay for 50quid from America, I hope I don't regret it. Live customer said it's not being restocked so I went crazy! but, I also won bidding on nars bento box, new, for 30!

PP is one of those colors that's going to look quite different on lighter and darker skin tones. On me (NC15) it's much redder and less blue looking than in your link. From your picture, my bet is it's going to be more like that on you too, but it'll look great. It's my vote for the newest looking color in the collection - the most "hmm never seen that one before" (never mind Impassioned) rather than "wow, what a super cute version of a color I've seen before" like Scarlet Ibis or Flamingo. Pink Pigeon is sort of in a class of its own as the "yay! I missed out on CYY" color.

LOL, I really don't have a clear cut favorite yet of all these - they're all pure love! No point in analyzing it too much, Miss Liba!

Is anybody else in love with Early Bird e/s?

While this collection is all about the lippies, there are also some fantastic matte e/s. EB is my favorite as it is vibrant and rather easy to apply for a matte formula. And I absolutely love how EB make blue eyes pop!

Thanks Honeymilk and Peachsons- You will love party parrot, I prefer it to impassioned!

I agree.
This morning, I compared Party Parrot and Impassioned to each other, and I like Party Parrot best.
To me, Party Parrot is brighter and more coral than Impassioned, and the texture is *so* great.
I wasn't sure I "needed" Party Parrot, but I'm glad I went for it!

Well, I am not going to knock myself out, but if they restock Pink Pigeon, I will get on it. Looks like I was wrong to skip the e/s based on reviews they were chalky, I should have known they would be better than rated. I love mattes and never have found them difficult, with rare exception. I am going back for Hozat and Silver Gull. I'd love RE and EB, but not sure I would use them enough to justify the purchase, although they sound divine. I personally prefer the neutral eye with the bright lip than the other way around.

My Party Parrot looks *nothing* like that photo!
It's a difficult color to describe; "clear bright warm rose" is about the best I can do.
Party Parrot IS neon bright, and not for the timid, so if you don't do bright lips, it may not be for you.
Personally, I love it, though it's at the limit of how coral this NW15 can successfully go.
It will be WONDERFUL for spring, though I plan to wear it this weekend.

My Flamingo came in the mail for me today! I was surprised a flamingo could fit in my mailbox though, they are pretty large animals (sorry, I couldn't resist

).

Back on topic, I love love love it! I think it will be a great color for the spring&summer being that orange/coral is the new trend! For an everyday look though, I like wearing it with a few coats of Myth on top of it for a beautiful milky coral pink. If you have Myth, please try this combo- it's gorgeous!

EB is frikken fantastic. I already raved about it in my jumbo, post-haul rant. It's a HG brow bone color for me and my special needs puffy brows (oh those allergies - i DID drink a ton of strong black tea today and it's helped. I think i'll need to go on a black tea eye poultice kick for a while, now that the little stray cat I've fed for years has suddenly transformed from totally scared to 100% cuddle-mode adoration; that damned fluffy, little sweetheart).

Anyhow, EB is the best of the bunch as far as ease of application goes and is a wonderful flattering color that's very versatile for lots of different looks on the lids, crease or brow bone. I love the lipsticks in this collection and pretty much all the rest of the shadows, but Early Bird is the number one best, all-around winner for daily use of the entire collection. You have me on record for that!

I've resisted Free to Be and other soft coral mattes for years, waiting for something as good as Early Bird.
