MAC Casual Colour discussion

I'm not sure I'm passing on this collection, but I'm not jumping up and down with impatience either.

My mom always just used a dot of her lipstick on her cheeks instead of blush. I've never been as simple. plus I tend to go for unnatural or unconventional colors.

I'm open to cream blushes - I've been wearing them off and on since the late 60s. Plus these new MAC Lip & Cheek might go on over my moisturizing foundation even better than powder blush. But i have to see them and test them to be sure.

On my must test list are:

=> Evening Stroll - Violet cream (i'm really looking forward to this)
=> Keep It Casual - Warm wine (since i'm looking for a deep plum blush to get back to that late 60s/early 70s look that borrowed from the 1920s & 30s)
I'll test but am less excited about the sensible colors below... i have enough sensible colors already
tease.gif

Relaxation - Warm pink
Keep It Loose - Warm peach
Have A Lovely Day! - Neutral nude

Depending on how the products look and feel i might buy one... or three... or none...
my mom did too.

That sounds great. Maybe I could apply and spread it with fingers and then use a brush to blend a little more. But from how you desribe the formula a brush really doesn't seem necessary. I'm still new to cream blushes, and I'm always afraid that it will look blotchy if I don't use the perfect brush.

I would have used the 130, but I don't own that one yet, so I was hoping that one I already have would be just fine.
If you have the 188 or 187 or 131, you could use any of those. I think you could also use any brush with the very soft white goat hairs. One of the stiffer dark hair brushes or a flat synthetic one would be too stiff probably. All in all, I'd say it's going to be a very easy to work with formula, so you could probably get away with anything more or less.

Yes, I have the 187 and 188, so I'll give them a try if I end up getting any of the blushes.

Thank you, lilinah and liba! They sound amazing. I'm excited about this collection now.

I cannot buy much as I still have my cremeblend blushes, but wow, I cannot wait to see them!

Liba, I skipped Crew and the blushes from HS collection, too.

Thank you very much for your review liba!

Do you think that the CCs work as a base for powder blushes,MBs and MSFs?
I would love to use them as bases too...

I checked out both collections today too and YES, I totally agree!

I DID actually try a bunch of them on my lips. Wow! They're so incredibly pigmented. You just need a tiny amount - like the size of a sesame seed or a lentil, I'm not kidding - and you get full coverage on both lips. These are not sheer at all, not even the lightest colors. The texture and how it works on the lips are actually very much like the Kissable Lip Colours. It's creamy like a thin gel, but it turns into a slightly creamier version of the KLC texture as soon as you spread it on your lips. It's so spreadable and non-streaky, I actually applied them all with the plastic spatulas I picked the product up with - even some crappy thing like a spatula is fine for getting it spread smoothly and evenly, no blotting, smooshing or patting into the skin is necessary.

Once it's applied, it works just like my beloved Kissables - it forms a second skin over your lip texture that is totally smooth and forgiving of all chapped bits and lip lines. It looks a teeny touch thicker and moister than the way the KLCs do once they dry down, but that's a good thing! You can get the same more satin finish of the KLCs by merely patting the product a smidge into the lips. You can drink a glass of water and have very minimal transfer too, just like the KLCs. I remember HerGreyness talking about how the Kissables formula was still in transition into something better and I wonder if this is it. It's certainly in the same family.

As for the cheeks, again these colors are pigmented and even the very lightest color showed up well in ways very light powder blushes don't on my skin. They melt into the skin with more moistness than the Cremeblend blushes, which are stiffer and harder to spread, but all the moisture sinks right into the skin and you are left with a wonderful satin finish that isn't glossy or noticeably dewy. If you think the Cremeblend finish is too heavy for your taste or too hard to control when applying, you will be much happier with these. I asked what brush MAC was recommending for them and I guess they're being told to encourage just rubbing it in with your fingers. Fingers worked just fine for me, again because they are so nice and spreadable - like high end moisturizer where a pea size covers your whole face. If you've ever felt frustrated doing contouring with a brush, you will finally be able to get the exact look you want with these with just your fingers easily. Also, they are very buildable, so if you want more, you can have more without a hassle, and the dry down time on the cheeks is instantaneous, again reminding me of very high end moisturizer. They aren't sheer at all though, even when applying just a tiny amount, just very natural looking and merging beautifully with your skin. If you have oily skin, don't worry - these won't cause you any problems at all. In fact, I think that they will help minimize pores a bit, for the same reason it smooths out the lips so well - that sort of second skin effect.

The colors are all beautiful, but you probably won't need to get them all - for example, there are 2 light pinks, one a little cooler & whiter and one a little less bright & more neutral - they're close enough that you can get the one that looks better on you, because they're very similar, just slightly different cast. Same thing for 2 nudes and 2 corals (although the corals you may want to consider both of, since those two are different enough to stand on their own - one is exactly like Exxxhibitionist, which is my #1 most used Kissable and an incredibly handy and cute color). The reddish wine and rose colors are totally gorgeous, like I thought they'd be. Also, Evening Stroll - YES. This is definitely the second coming of Go For It - it's BLUE based by far, but a shade lighter than Go For It - it's still mid-tone, not pastel though, which is awesome. On the cheeks, this takes on a beautiful plum color, not unlike a softer, cooler Vintage Grape.

Considering the minute amount you need when applying these on lips or cheeks, the size of the jar is very generous. You could easily get months of daily use out of these, especially if you take the product out with a spatula. The formula in the pot is quite stable looking - not waxy or oily - so I think it ought not to get all weird, crusty, dry or separated if you take care and just lightly smooth a little product out, rather than digging around inside. I don't much care for pots, but in this case, a tube with an applicator would be pretty wasteful in comparison to a tiny scrape off the top with a spatula. If you buy one, just ask for a handful of those plastic disposable spatulas and clean them off with a little rubbing alcohol or soap and water. All in all, a good value for the price.

I'm getting Evening Stroll (perhaps 2, although I'm trying to cut down on BUs), Have a Lovely Day! - which was the perfect pale contouring color that Strada wasn't for me at all and also looks great on the lips (Keep It Loose is very similar but peachier and not quite as nice for me on the lips, but very nice on the cheeks), Relaxation - which will be more useful overall than Lazy Sunday (although Lazy Sunday really looked great on my lips, unlike 99% of cool, pale baby pinks out there), Weekend Getaway (gorgeous), Keep It Casual (gorgeous), and probably Out For Fun, which is the Exxxhibitionist looking one. You WILL find a MLBB color in this collection, no matter your skin tone although I felt the collection could have stood to have one or two deeper colors for the darkest complexions. Still, I do think the texture is nice enough and the pigmentation is high enough that most of the colors will be acceptable all the way up to fantastic on the cheeks for even dark skin.

Color me impressed! Very high quality new product and I am not sorry I've passed on Crew and the HS blushes in favor of these.

That's a good question! I'm not sure if I could answer it, because I normally don't use cream blushes as a base for powder blush - I just wind up doing one or the other.

These are nicely pigmented and they absorb into the skin very well, so maybe that'd make it a good base? It does create a smooth skin effect, though, and it's not sticky or "grabby", so perhaps powder wouldn't stick well on top of it? Wish I could be more help.

I thought your last two sentences were describing your weekend
peace2.gif
i'm getting out for fun this weekend, too, and probably going for a evening stroll tonight (it's a holiday this weekend + Monday here in the US with picnics and bar-b-cues)

I thought i was safe when i first saw this collection and i'd only get 1 or 2 of these. Then I "only" pre-saled 3...

Now i'm thinking of going back for more. I should test Weekend Getaway and even Keep It Casual ("warm wine") - I want a plummy blush and this was redder than i like, but, sheesh, these are all so beautiful, i may just get sucked in. And i haven't tested any of them on my lips yet!

I'm trying to hold back because I'm jumping up and down with impatient anticipation for Heavenly Creature - want all the MSFs and the Blushes and all but one of the E/S
mac_atemywallet.gif
But at least the other July releases i've seen so far don't interest me...

LOL. I've only in the last year really gotten into mac. I have been having the hardest time sticking to my original lists because unlike a lot of people here I dont have any dupes and EVERYTHING is original to me. I love color and I love nudes. The more I look at this collection the more I think I might want Keep it loose and Have a lovely Day

I'm in the same boat; I basically replaced everything but a couple of MAC lippies last fall. Out with the old (some very old), in with the new. Even if HS wasn't completely original, I didn't have like shades so it was good for me.

I'm approaching saturation though; I get concerned that I wouldn't be able to get through any more of the shorter life products (lippies, l/g, fluidlines, etc) so I'm really trying to buy fewer of those. I know I'll purchase some of the fall and holiday collections, but I'm trying to really just focus on products that I love and that are different from what I have. I don't always succeed, but that's the goal.

I have four l/g open so my plan is to not open any more until at leat 2 of them are gone or I'm tired of using them. I have two fluid lines so I'm good there. I'm having a hard time not opening my HS l/g but I'm making myself wait. before it would typically take me about a year to get through 2 lipsticks but that was with only applying once in the morning. I apply them more often now. I have never had a l/s go bad on me.

I've never had a MAC lippie go off; I've had some shades that I wear less often (like VG1) for far longer than two years and it hasn't been a problem. I replaced the last one because I couldn't remember when I last purchased it but I knew it had been a long time (five years maybe)? It still seemed fine but I thought it was time to go. I've only started buying l/g this year; one I purchased in February has already lost its vanilla scent and gotten thicker. MAC tells me that it isn't bad, but I no longer like using it. Unless I come across a to-die-for colour, I think I'm going to see how some of the others I'm using pan out from a longevity perspective. A MAC MUA told me they should have a 2 year shelf-life when opened, but I know several people here say it's under a year.

Clinique lippies always go off on me. I don't buy them but get a few each year from GWP. They always end up smelling like crayons and getting tossed. I don't use them often (other than A Different Grape); their freebies are usually very sheer and I don't particularly care for them.

I always love your detailed reviews Liba. I was hoping for a dewy finish with these- that's the impression I got from the promo pics. What finish do you think they give?

I'm not Liba, but i would say that the finish, while perhaps not fully "dewy", still leaves the skin with a bit of sheen, a natural looking glow, not from shiny stuff in it - because there is no shimmer - but from the creamy nature of the product.
