I recently did a general video review of ELF's main line for YouTube, soooo...I'll summarize my general opinions on their products (excluding the mineral and studio lines, and certain newer products):
HATE:
-- Almost all of their skin care products. They are always either really dry and cakey or super-oily. I threw out their foundation stick and I have no clue why I keep their hydrotint and concealer, which I bought last year...they're AWFUL. Plus, their lightest tone is too dark for me, and I don't even think I'm that fair!
-- Their pressed eyeshadows. Next to no color payoff, give or take a few colors. You REALLY have to pack the shadow on, and it never stays for me. :/ But granted, I like looking like a drag queen.
MEH:
-- Most of their lip products. Their hypershine glosses have no color whatsoever and are slightly sticky, so it kind of annoys me that I bought 4 expecting slight tints of color. Also, their liquid lipsticks are okay, depending on what you want, but very sheer.
-- Their blush. GORGEOUS colors, easy to blend, but they are way too soft and powdery. They break at the drop of a hat...I have to buy a new Glow and hope it doesn't burst in the mail, cause I love it.
-- The eyeliner pencils have some decent colors and glide pretty well, but the colors never show up as bright on my skin as they are in the actual pencil, and they fade really easily.
LOVE:
-- I could NOT live without their pressed powder and blotter sheets. Those are the two skin products from the main line that I think are an absolute steal. I use a kabuki brush rather than the provided powder puff for the powder, but other than that, it is so soft and light and blendable and WONDERFUL! The lightest tone matches my skin perfectly. And the blotter sheets? I rip them in to 4 pieces each, which unless you have oily skin is more than enough...I use them all the time in the summer and before photo shoots.
-- Shimmering facial whips! OMG! I am buying more ASAP! They're multipurpose, but I always use them as blushes. Bright, beautiful, dewy colors that are easy to blend! I have Lilac Petal and Persimmon, and I'm thinking of buying some of the more peachy colors.
-- I bought 5 or 6 of the soothing lip glosses back in 2003 and they are STILL going strong! Grape chill has separated a bit because it isn't matte, but I just mix the brush around a bit and it looks fine. Chai is my go-to nude gloss and I'm almost out of it, so I think I'll cry. D: I think the new SPF15...whatever...glosses may be the same product, just re-packaged...can anybody vouche for that? (The soothing glosses were relatively opaque, slightly minty, and not at all sticky.)
-- Almost all of their brushes are awesome. Their foundation brush is my faaaaavorite!
Again, lots of stuff I haven't tried and should, namely their mineral booster and stuff from the studio line, cause I hear tons about it. Generally speaking, I love their products, there are just a few I'll never buy again.
Oh, and a random note: I've heard from several people that buying straight from their website means superior quality over store-bought items, especially their brushes. I'm not sure if that's true, but I always buy from the site, and the brushes are always soft and the products are just as I expected.
