If there are any estheticians out there lurking can you pm me and let me know. I had a visit about 2 weeks ago and the gal I went to see completely SCREWED up my skin! So bad it led to a visit to the dermatologist! I only have a second but an going to post pics when I get a chance...

Ive been using dermalogica products for a while and asked her about the oil cleanse Ive been hearing so much about. I bought the cleansing oil and took it home to use. 35 bucks and a week later my face absolutely erupted! I have huge cystic acne that is continuing to break out all over my face! When I called her to ask what the hell, she said that it will get worse before it gets better! WORSE THAN WHAT! My skin wasnt bad before but now I look like a crack-head! I broke down and saw the dermatologist and he said that sometimes things do get worse before they get better. He said that because my breakouts are only on my face they are attributed to the oil she gave me. He told me dont pick (yeah right) and that it may take some time to clear up... He actually even offered a cortizone shot to reduce a few. I declined, since its awful expensive and has too many side effects. He also reccomended a few prescription face washes and some creams, but said the washes may be similar to ones I already use. Since my insurance doesnt cover it, Id rather just buy things "over the counter". I have been using an antibiotic cream that he gave me.
SO! Heres my questions...
1. Can you gals reccomend any 'medicated' washes or toners that I should be using? Im pissed at my dermalogica.
2. Is there any way i can get rid of the pressure feeling from the systic acne? Someone mentioned somewhere I could like lance it or something?
3. And is there anything I should be using to reduce the scaring?

any help is great...

I don't have a lot to offer you for most of your post, but dear god do NOT lance cystic acne. I get cystic acne every once in a while, and trust me leaving it the hell alone is the best way to deal with it. It's not like regular acne where you can pop it and you feel guilty but the zit itself is mostly gone. You will just end up with an open sore from picking at your face in a vain effort to pop it. It won't pop. Please trust me on this one.

Hopefully some other girls have some good ideas for you.

I agree don't lance it! Will make it worse.

What is your skin type? Oily/Combo skins should not use an oil cleanser unless they follow with a cleanser specifically for their skin type to remove the oil from the pores completely.

Call the pharmacist at your Drug Store or any drug store and tell them what prescriptions the Dermatologist prescribed for you and ask them what is the closest OTC alternative for those rx drugs. That is what I always do when I get creams and such...My son was given a prescription cream med for his poison ivy and they were able to tell me exactly which OTC creams were just as effective and had the same ingredients just in a lower non rx dosage.

That sounds to me like a bit of an allergic reaction. I would get to your Doctor fast, write a complaint about the product with photo evidence. As well as a doctors note.

If you need any more advice PM me.

Oh and I thought of something else.
Go outside for a walk for at least 1 hour a day, get those endorphins going and the fresh air and sun to your skin. This will help it a lot!

Do not cover it up with make up. And I think you should go back and get the cortisone shot. Or at least get a prescription for some very good anti inflammatories specialised for skin swellings.
