Flawless skin- is it possible for me?

OK, so here is a description of my skin and its problems
  • Normal/ combination skin
  • Skin tone MAC NC25/ EL DW Light in int 2, EM Light olive
  • Large blocked pores on cheeks, chin and nose
  • Uneven skin tone on cheeks and chin
  • Moderate undereye circles
  • Some breakouts with redness on my chin (breakout with MAC foundations, Revlon Colorstay)
Here is my current method of doing my face makeup
  • Apply Liz Earle normal moisturiser and allow to sink in
  • Dot Estee Lauder Double Wear concealor on blemishes on chin and blotchy bits. Allow to dry for a couple of seconds before blending in with finger
  • Apply YSL Touche Eclait on undereye circles, blending with a different finger
  • Apply EL DW Light with fingers in stroking motions
  • Sometimes set with MAC MSF Natural in medium
I still don't feel that I have flawless skin that lasts all day. I don't want a caked look, but by lunchtime I can see my redness and spots coming through.

Can anybody recommend any tools/ products that would be good to create that perfect flawless skin look? Any good tutorials to watch?

TIA

I don't think any amount of makeup can give the illusion of 'flawless' skin if the underlying skin is not in good condition, unfortunately.

I'm reading this book called "The Beautiful Skin Workout" by Dr Michelle Copeland, and it's awesome!

Amazon.com: The Beautiful Skin Workout: Eight Weeks to the Smoothest, Healthiest Skin of Your Life: Michelle Copeland, Megan Deem: Books

Her philosophy is that with the right kinds of products, eliminating harmful ones, and a consistent skincare regime, it is possible for anyone to have creamy, flawless, glowing skin.

I like at the beginning of the book how she says she can tell how well you take care of your skin by feeling the skin on your elbow and then categorizes people based on the condition of it.. It's a good read, I'd check it out

I think you should try using a brush to apply your foundation. I just purchased the MAC 180 brush that Kim K used in her vid and it applies my MUFE Face and Body flawlessly. I like it better than the 187, but the 187 works really well too.

Also I don't know much about DW Light, but maybe switch to a foundation that is more layer-able? Grab samples of MUFE F&B and High Def. I find MUFE applies in layers really well when you need more coverage.

ETA: I don't think MSF Naturals works very well for setting makeup. I use Loose Blot, but want to try MUFE High Def.

My brother is flying back from NYC and was going to try and track me down some F&B for me. I hope he found a Sephora as you can't buy MUFE over here.

I do have a 187alike, and its ok with Mat Velvet (too £££ for everyday use and shade I have is too pale for summer) but looks blotchy with DW Light

I was thinking of trying MAC F&B as it is buildable.

MUFE HD is the SHIT ! For flawless, radiant skin, I have found nothing better thus far. As far as the rest, I think it boils down to skincare. Shiseido and Clarins are among the best on the market and they provide free samples in order to try the line and offer full refunds if they do not work for you. Exfoliating is important to keep the skin fresh, I do it twice per week with a sugar scrub. As mentioned, applying makeup with a brush is key; the 187 works really well for me. In fact, using my MUFE HD without a brush gives a completely different look - one I don't like nearly as much. HTH !

I like MUFE Face and Body too, but I do not find it to be as heavy of coverage, F&B is light to medium coverage when built on, HD is medium to full when doing the same. (for me anyway) Also F&B is sweat and waterproof, HD is not. The waterproof/sweatproof makeups tend to clog my pores and I am combination skin, oily in the t-zone.

Wearing primer helps a lot. Also def use a brush, i use 187 and it works great!
i have big pores too, which I hate. I use:
-moisturizer
-prep&prime
-Mac Studio Fix Fluid buffed on with the 187
-blot powder to set

this makes my pores look almost unnoticeable and it makes my crappy skin look pretty good lol

There is only one shop in the whole of Britain that sells MUFE and it is a professional MUA shop so they defo don't do samples.

I might order another 187 specifically for foundation application though

I agree with one of the other posters, a primer will probably help. They make this in all kinds of forms including powder. If you like mineral stuff, try fyrinnae(sp?). I've heard that their rice powder primer is very good although I have personally not tried it myself. I prefer camellia-rose primer

You have some of the same problems that I have.

Deffo use a primer if you get oily and want your make up to last all day. If you have problems with redness get a concealer that eliminates redness. That would be for example MAC select cover in NW shades or a concealer that specially made to eliminate redness, I use MUS cover all red. Same goes for under-eyes, something that eliminates blue so that would be select cover in NC shades or a orangeish concealer. Also a foundation with medium buildable coverage helps to correct uneven skintones and that way you don't neet that muc concealer. What I do is that I put my foundation firts and concealer after that, so that way you won't cake up as much. I also recomend to use a brush or a latex wedge to apply foundation, you get a more even finish than with fingers.

I defo agree about skincare. I was using products for oily / acneskin but have realized they are far too harsh and drying on parts of the skin and lead to increases in oil production in other parts of the skin.

At the moment I cleanse twice daily with liz earle cleanse and polish, use her skin repair moisturizer, exfoliate twice a week with her gentle face exfoliator and use the mint julep mask weekly. I will admit I do have the Avon anew retexturising peel as it gets good reviews on mua.

Can anybody recommend some brands other Than mufe that are on sale in the I'm.

OMG I am lemming Prescriptives Custom Blend to get the prefect foundation texture, shade and performance.

I should wait and see if my brother actually got me the MUFE F&B though before spending £45 I don't have ($80!!!)

Use a primer like Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting touch as a base - it's a wonderful product for combination skin. Laura Mercier oil free and MAC Prep and Prime SPF50 are also decent products that minimize shine and provide a base for foundation.

I agree with the previous posts which recommended MUFE Face and Body as well as HD. Since MUFE is unavailable, try Laura Mercier Silk Creme which is a medium to full coverage foundation and Clarins Express Compact Foundation (powder) - a fabulous product for combination/oily skin.

I also recommended using brushes to apply both liquid (MAC#187, #190, Smashbox #13) and powder (MAC #129, #150, Stila Powder brush) foundation. Remember to wash the brushes at least once a week if you do use them!

Since you have an uneven skin tone and redness from breakouts, consider seeing a dermatologist for a skin care routine that will help minimize/eliminate these issues. Most skin conditions are temporary and respond well to treatment - you just have to stick to it with a LOT of patience!

HTH.

Hey!

YSL touche eclat doesn't actually conceal, it is only illuminating so you would be better trying something else under your eyes for more coverage. EL Double wear light is long lasting but not a heavy coverage so you would be better going for the double wear and applying with a brush.

What about trying an anti redness primer before hand?

heyyy this thread is right up my alley. i use mac SFF, NC42, because i too am looking for flawless skin. (dont worry, im working on it too, eating healthier/drinking tons of water/using retin-a and mama lotion to clear it all up!)

right now i would say that ever since i became friends with my dermatologist, my skin is clearer than it has been in years except this one trouble spot on my left cheek. other than that my only problem is hyperpigmentation but its slowly going away now that i have a set regimen. i was using SFF with a regular foundation brush (similar to the 190) but now that i have switched to the 187 i see a huuuuggggeeee difference in the way my skin looks. it really looks like i have flawless skin, minus that area on my left cheek. i really would start with switching to a brush...ok, that and getting the breakouts under control.

p.s. primers are great (i have oilier skin than you i promise) but DONT use them if your skin is peeling! i found out the hard way!!!

I think u should invest some money into getting a face primer! My makeup applied in the morning looked the best, but the night time it would sink into my skin...ever since I started to use a primer my makeup stays in place even till nite! I also heard from somewhere or maybe from my mom, but if u switch and use too many face products, it can irrirate ur skin, thus resulting in breakouts etc. Makeup products have harsh chemicals so be careful in wat u use.

I have uneven skintone, alot of acne blackheads. I've been using Ultraquin(which can be purchased over the counter pharmacy) and all it does it lighten up hyperpigmentation, discolouration. Including blackheads and it's working for me. Except I stopped for few months. Continous use of it will help. Or better yet, see a skin specialist. That's my last option as I'm tired of getting a clearer face with no matter wat i use!

IMHO you need to focus on perfecting a skin care routine before your makeup routine. It would be wonderful if you could go get a facial to get professional advice for your skin care routine. It sounds like you have combination, slightly more on the oily side skin. Your skin is the canvas to your makeup - everything will look perfect if you have good skin. The only other thing I can suggest is a good quality concealer. I personally love Jane Iredale Disappear camouflage cream. I use it on clients and it covers beautifully. It is very opaque and is healthy for your skin. It won't clog your pores making breakouts worse.

Its interesting how lots of u see dermatologists. Over here in the uk, you only get referred to a derm if you have severe acne requiring roacutane. I was actually seeing one for my eczema, and mentioned that I was unhappy with my skin. She didn't really think it was a problem. In the past I've tried oral and topical antibiotics, however the side effects of nausea and dry skin respectively weren't worth it. I suppose it's the difference with living in the uk with the nhs, compared with the USA's system of paying for your healthcare therefore being a customer and not a patient. And you know what they say, the customer is always right!

It is my birthday on Sunday and have thought of asking for microdermabrasion to help with my skin

Estee Lauder Double wear foundation (applied with brush)
studio finish concealer for undereye circles
and i use painterly paintpot to conceal red spots and pimples after i use a little bit of golden bronzer to give me a lil bit of color and set everything with macs studio fix (powder)

every product i mentioned above is heavy coverage and can look mask like thats why you would have to practice application ...its not easy but i have horrible skin and thats the only method to make my skin look like skin
