Foundation ? - going from one shade to a darker shade

I use MAC studio Fix Powder C4, however I've been tanning and i'll probably get darker, what is the next shade up from C4? also I want to try studio fix fluid. I've been given the tester for NC35, NC37, & NC40. but NC35 was kinda light. I liked NC37 & NC40. So what liquid foundation color goes with C4 and which one would go with the darker shade powder?

Hm... I've always have trouble with liquid foundation except for about 2 times a year (dead of summer and dead of winter). Other than that, I sometimes try for a home made tinted moisturizer with powder on top to bridge the gap.

I also like using a darker powder along the hairline since it could be that you might not tan evenly across your face.
