I'm watching my local news early this morning and a segment on San Francisco's CBS 5 news came on about "Cosmetic Lawsuit Means Free Makeup And Perfume".

Anyone who has bought high end cosmetics or perfume (brands include Chanel, Calvin Klein, Vera Wang, MAC, Aveda, Lancolm, etc.) between May 1994 and July 2003 at stores like Macy's, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus are eligible for the $25 worth of free cosmetics.

You do not need a receipt or proof of purchase, but you have to sign up if you want to be notified of when the giveaway begins. Info about the case: http://www.cosmeticssettlement.com/

It looks like its the result of a class action lawsuit. This is generally what happens with class action suits, since its a such a large group of people that take part in the lawsuit instead of sending them each a check or something they give product away. This has happened with Microsoft in the past and more recently with TransUnion (the credit reporting company), they're giving six - nine months of free credit monitoring as the settlement to their class action suit.

this settlement is now closed. i heard about it a while ago and was going to file my name because of a Chanel lipgloss but i didn't want to be compensated with more Chanel products. my lips were swollen for days-for my junior prom, senior pictures, and college visits.

I went through a Class Action Lawsuit with Abercrombie a few years back and recieved $2,000 from it. So a Class Action Lawsuit is a legit punishment for companies.

But for this to be on the news, I think it's for real.
