MAC colour combinations

I'm a newby to MAC so when it comes to combining colours to create a look i'm not too clued up on how to do it. For example do i use pigments with pigments?
pigments with matt colours?

Are there eyeshadows that should be used with specific textures like creme, pigments, matts etc.

I've seen tutorial where they have been created with pigments but i haven't seen any with pigments with anything elese.

so can you use different textures to create a look? do they work well together?

Yes, you can mix textures. I like to wear Satins with Frosts. You can wear pigments with mattes, anything you want and think looks good. Some people say that you really shouldn't wear all Frost eyeshadows but it is really up to you.
