Need a good quality hair color dye :)

So, I'm low on money and now willing to spend 80 dollars on going to a salon for color. What's a good at-home color dye?
Right now, my hair is turning a brassy brownish-red. I'm going on vacation this summer, and want to tone it down to a dark brownish color. Any suggestions?

I use Loreal Feria. It is pretty good for being $10. The color fades in like 4-6 months but it just ends up looking like a lighter version of what it was like when it was freshly dyed.

Still pretty.

you could always grab a toner to get out that brassy color.
I like Wella dyes, you do not need a license to buy them and they have good staying power - its about 8 bucks for a big bottle of developer, then everytime you dye you get a tube of the color for about 4 bucks. if you do have a license or know someone that does Paul Mitchell has a great line too.

Jumping in on this thread, has anyone tried the new Fekkai dye kits from Sephora? Are they worth the extra money or is L'Oreal or Garnier just as good?
