PM issues?

Ok, explain to my confused brain why sometimes if I write messages they go to my Outbox and other times they go to my Sent box? Are the Outbox ones being sent? If not, how do I make them "go," as it were? I can't find a button... heeelp!! Lol, Thanks.

outbox = message has not yet been read (opened) by recipient

sentbox - message has been read (opened) by recipient
