I'm a newbie when it comes to make up. lately, ive been buying most stuff online. If i go to a mac counter, will i have to buy something before they can help me out with shades and stuff? i need to know what shade of foundation, concealer and bronzer that goes well with my skin. and oh, eyeshadows and stuff. in fact, everything!! i just dont want to go there and ask them to help me and then tell me i have to buy something. the same goes for sephora

You're not "obliged" to buy anything anywhere chick, they can't force you! Hehe! But if you mean is there like a minimum spend or anything like that then no. Unless you're getting a makeover, you don't have to pay or buy any products unless you want to. The MA's should help you out with finding lotsa lovely, and suitable, make up and all for freeeeeee!
