Removing tops from lipglass

Can anyone please tell me how to remove the plastic "guard" from the top of the lipglass tube that holds the color?

I use cuticle clippers to grasp it, then I pull and it comes right out

I saw a MUA do this at the counter once. I believe it allows you to stick certain brushes in the tube and also use up all of the product or what's left on the bottom that the regular wand can't reach.

I want to do this so that I can get a small brush into the container to get the remainder of the product as it was an LE item.
