White stripe across the lid?

What does it mean when there is a white stripe across the lid of a MAC product? Curious because I've seen several girls selling MAC products that had this stripe that looks like it was painted on. Does it mean it's fake?

Maybe it was bought at a CCO or warehouse sale and its marked to prevent returns to a freestanding store or MAC counter? Thats my only guess....

Nope, its almost certainly a gratis mark.... some of them punch holes, some of them use whiteout to make that stripe and then some of them sell their gratis on ebay or swap it off elsewhere.

I find for the gratis mark they tend to put the punch mark on the lipsticks and regular eyeshadows. I find the white stripe mainly on the pigments, mineralized eyeshadows and face powders/blushes.
