Why is it so hard to find a great stylist?!

Okay, so having short hair is definitely more maintenance, but I totally think it's worth it. I really don't mind having to visit the salon a little more often. But, the problem is that I can't find anyone reliable to do my hair! The stylist who originally cut my hair is scissor happy & no matter what I tell her she always starts cutting & can't seem to stop! So my hair usually ends up being a lot lower than I like, one day she even took the razor & trimmed the hair around my face with it. You know how when someone is wearing a short tapered weave & it's very obvious around the hair line? That's how my hair looked, except mine is real! My friends all called me "Monk head" until it grew back in. After that I vowed never to go back to her. Then I started going to this stylist who does the most amazing job with my hair! I feel like a movie star when I leave her salon, but the problem is that she runs her own personal business & does hair on the side. She is always traveling out of town & trying to get an appointment with her on the weekends is out of the question because that is when she is focused on her other business. The last few times I called to make appointments with her she has been out of town. I need a hair cut & relaxer so bad right now it's ridiculous! Tomorrow I have an appointment with a new lady & I am hoping that I am happy with the results. But, even this lady told me that she doesn't really do hair anymore because there isn't enough money in it & the only reason she is taking me on as a client is because a really good former client of her's referred me to her. So even if I love her work, it seems like she won't always be available either. I am so frustrated right now! Why can't I just find a reliable stylist that does a great job on my hair??!! If anyone knows of a good stylist who does ethnic hair in south, FL please let me know!

I feel your pain! I have long hair and it took me a 3 yrs after I moved out to Miami to find a decent stylist. My issue is the women at my salon know they are good and as a result they don't keep to the time schedule on the door. Door says they open at 9 and they often will not show up until 10-10:30. When they do get there, there is a line of women that have been waiting since about 8. If I doing my own hair didn't tire me out I would do it myself.

I felt the same way when I moved to Texas I had, had the same stylist in Ohio for 15 years and it was so difficult...Thankfully my mom's stylist is sensational and he has been doing her hair for so many years....He is really great with natural hair and relaxed hair and can cut his ass off....I just pray he out lives me...Only problem is he is booked to the high hills...so I have a standing appt every other Tuesday morning at 10am....if you no have set appts you may never get in

Wow, that's beautiful! Cooper City is pretty far, but if I have no luck with his new lady I might just send you a message & ask for her #! Thanks!

Good news ladies! I went to my appointment with the new stylist yesterday & I am really happy with the results. She did an amazing job & her prices are very reasonable. She explained that she is a color specialist & she likes to focus more on that because that's where the money is. That's why she doesn't really take on new clients who just do relaxers or haircuts. But, that she would do my cuts & relaxers for me as long as it was during the early part of the week, because she is busy with coloring during the weekends. That's fine by me because I usually have my days off on Mondays & Tuesdays! So I am crossing my fingers that she continues to be reliable & I can keep seeing her

I have a really great hairstylist who I have been going to since I was 13 and she was in her mid 20s....I've been going to her for 20 years. She knows intuitively what will work on my very thick and coarse hair, what I will or won't like...She's a perfectionist, a color specialist and she gives me a special price (not cheap but a lot less than others). She's like family now too lol. I don't know what I will do when/if she ever decides to retire....The thought scares me because I have heard/seen some horror stories!

That's awesome you found someone! I gave up on finding that perfect stylist. I used to drive almost an hour to see this lady that did sewn-ins (and she would cut my hair perfectly before she did them), but then she moved away!

ever since then I found a woman but she does them out of her home in a but her neighborhood scares me more than mine does which is bad lol. So now I just do my own weaves at home, but I wish I could find someone to cut my hair since my ends are bad and I'm terrible at cutting

But anyway I'm so happy you found someone to fit your schedule! And you're not alone alot of ladies have that dilemma every once in a while.

LOL, thank you! One of the first hair cuts I got had that horrible line of demarcation in the back, that's why I am so careful when choosing a stylist, because not everyone can cut short hair. I'm so happy that I found one that can! I have already had a few people ask me for her number. I made sure to tell them that she only does cuts & relaxers during the early part of the week lol!
