How to do interesting eye looks that don't look too heavy?

I see so many interesting bold eye looks. Unfortunately they just look too heavy and dull with my eye shape and coloring. I want some looks that will make me look sharper.
I usually just use a bit of black eyeliner on my top lid and white eyeliner in the inner corner. I want to mix it up a bit, but I don't really know how. What would be some interesting looks that don't look too heavy or make my eyes look too round? I prefer cool or neutral colors.

A winged eyeliner look would elongate your eye, and it doesn't have to be a massive wing, just a tiny one. And in lieu of white eyeliner in the inner corner, you could experiment with pops of different brighter colours (e.g, a bright purple, a sky blue) while keeping the rest of the eye relatively neutral. Or you could line part or all of your lower lashline with a bolder colour while, again, keeping the eyelid predominantly neutral.
