No offense to anyone but this is such a disgusting country and religion.

I wish I could help every single one of those women and children and get them hell out of there.

I can't think of anything more than 'that is terrifying'. What a horrible place for a woman (for any one, to think that they could ever consider that to be 'right').

It's pretty ridiculous to say something that is extremely offensive and hurtful to an entire nation and one of the largest religions in the world and then add "no offence". I know there are muslim girls on Spectra, and calling their religion disgusting is ... well... disgusting.

Any religion practiced in the extreme is bad news. Just look at Christianity and the various crusades over the years. Religion is often used as an excuse to oppress others, but that doesn't mean a particular religion is disgusting.

Well, as someone who WAS raped by her husband, I can tell you it DOES and CAN happen.

Just because I'm married to someone doesn't mean he owns me, or my sexual organs. If I say no, I mean no.

If you throw me down and TAKE IT, THAT IS RAPE.

ETA: I should have said ex-husband. We were married at the time, we aren't anymore.

I'm with Jinni on this one. It's really offensive to tar an entire religion and part of the world with the same brush because of the actions of one particular country. I'm from the Middle East, and whilst my heart goes out to the poor women in Afghanistan, I'm proud to say that womens' rights in the country where I grew up have improved drastically since I was a little girl, and I'm sure that other countries have and will follow suit.

It is of course your opinion, but I think it is a very misinformed one.
(Thanks Jinni for addressing the issue first!

I completely agree with both sections, but the second second really spoke out to me. Any Religion to the extreme is extremely annoying.

Actually FGM is more a African tradition that was enfolded into some of African Muslim traditions, but it is primarily African and has been around about as long a Christ.
So can't blame the religion for that.

people are sick, I am so fortunate that I live in a country where I have rights and opprotunities.

I wish those women would stand up and not take this bullshit, its the 21st century gosh darnit, we are all so much more than servants and baby factories.

I feared losing my family if I didn't go through with it and can honestly say my father despises me for filing for a divorce. Once you're divorced, it brings shame to your family and sometimes you don't get to keep them after the fact. Luckily I was only married a year but it was still a year that cost me my father in the process.

I wasnt posting on arrainged marriages but I guess that kinda goes with the whole topic of females in some cultures not having the same rights as the rest of the modern world. You asked what rights does a female have when she is arrainged by her own family....Im thinking zero, either do what we say or be disowned?? Thats completely unfair.

I cant really imagine what it must be like to actually live that type of life or be in those types of situations. I understand loving your parents unconditionally as a child because they are the ones that raise and care for you. What gets me though is the adults who let this continue, how could you kill your daughter for " honor", or have her genitals sliced off, minimal education ect ect ect...I dont see how that is love.

Did you know that in America, even with the rights we now have as women the Equal Rights Amendment is still not part of the United States Constitution. Since its 1923 proposal, the ERA has only been ratified in 35 states, leaving it 3 states short of the 38 required for ratification.

^And it's funny how so many men think we're equals and if anything women are at a better advantage all over the world. It disgusts me.
