It ain't all that. I've gone a handful of times and I've had some fun but I pretty much never father friend together to go to one. Except my little divey, industrial club Elysium.
It's not. I sure don't miss it! If you have good friends/relationship you can have a good time anywhere!

some of the most fun I've had in recent years was just while hanging out at a friend's pad shooting the shit.

That said, I got bored of them eventually. These days I much prefer a quiet bar. I'm going to see a friend's daughter sing on Sat. At a small bar that is SO loud you can't even talk to the person next to you. I don't like those kinds of places.
Those sound like great clubs! We have a few here that are multi level or multi room as well, but I'm usually the only one when I get dragged out by friends to one who wants to hang in the "retro room" and rock all the 80s stuff. lol
If I'm going out downtown though I either hit little dive bars that have karaoke or live bands in them or I go to Elysium. I just can't really deal with anything else anymore.
I don't like those kinds of places either, I like to be able to converse with people without screaming at them while out and about.

Crimson you would've loved some of the clubs I've been to. I saw Sisters of Mercy at a club in Pittsburgh. I went by myself and still had fun. I can't even remember the name of it now.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who'll go to shows alone!

There was a point in my life when I went out every night except Friday nights. Always to the same clubs. To the point where the bouncers knew me and my gfs and we could then skip the lines. I'm more of a homebody now.

I hate the club scene. The only time I went to a club was for a light up dance floor and was always with big looking guys. (I never really had a whole lot of girlfriends) but I was also more of a hole In the wall bar kinda girl. I always had more fun playing the rowdy music on the jukebox and singing. Those were the days. I haven't been to the bar in ages though.

I usually stick to the gay bars and clubs on the off chance I join friends on an outing downtown because you don't get any of the creepy guys coming up behind you and grinding on you as you dance etc, plus they're just more fun. :) Every time we go into just the regular run of the mill club, I leave feeling groped and annoyed.
Ugh, I only go to gay clubs and last time I went I got groped and I almost spilled my drink on his head because when I told him not to touch me he laughed and said I shouldn't wear short shorts if I didn't want him to grab me. EW. But one of the guys that worked there saw it all and kicked him out so it all worked out!
We had a nice gay club that was really popular (and usually very friendly and safe) but unfortunately the owner had to shut it down for some reason. The other club in town is the really trashy disgusting one where I was dancing with my friends once and a guy literally came up to me and stuck his hands down my underwear. Guys prey on drunk girls there all the time, it's disgusting. Or they hit on you, then when you tell them you're gay they tell you they can fix that. It's real lovely. :eek:hboy:
Eww! I'm stunned someone would do THAT. I have a feeling that clubs have changed a lot since I used to go. But the ones that I went to were either alternative/industrial, or gay clubs. Gay guys are so much more fun to hang out with, and much nicer to women, usually. One night I got really light-headed when I was at a gay club, and these guys that I'd just met got me outside and sat with me until I felt better. That's how it should be!

I've probably been to whatever kind you're thinking of, unless it's something that was invented recently. Some fun, some are creepy. I think it all depends on the person/people you go with. That made all the difference for me. Crimson you would've loved some of the clubs I've been to. I saw Sisters of Mercy at a club in Pittsburgh. I went by myself and still had fun. It's been awhile since I have, but if no one else wants to go, why not? I haven't been to a concert for years, though. I'm looking forward to going out tomorrow night even though I don't like the bar. It's the only time I get together with my friend so I'll deal with it.
