Ugh, MAC mattes never look that shiny to me... on my lips they set dry AF, just the way I like it lol! I wish she would allow them to set more before taking pics! They all look like amplifieds!
Based on her review that went up today, seems as if these are closer to satin finishes than mattes. She said even an hour and a half after application they still had a sheen. Which is weird because most of the swatches we've seen, they've looked true matte. I think @Geeko said further up in the thread that she felt they weren't true mattes either (booo! I like mine dry-ish as well)

I find that these new matte lipsticks seem to apply creamy and smoothly but they dry down to a matte finish for me.

It's definitely her photography set up plus slathering them on too heavily and not letting them set up. Also, the way MAC's mattes have been this year, they're a little light reflective and just hard to photograph. In person they look matte but vibrant.

Yep! I exfoliate my lips and apply lip balm before I start my face/eye makeup. Once I'm done I blot off any extra balm that hasn't been absorbed, apply MAC's prep + prime lip primer, wait til it gets tacky, line my lips and apply lipstick. For me they apply matte straight out of the tube unless I leave on too much lip balm.

I find when I use my Jack Black lip balm, if I don't blot, my regular mattes never set. They still look mostly matte but they transfer. Only happens with MAC's mattes though. I was just wondering if maybe theirs looked extra satin because of their balm underneath.

Yeah probably or like others mentioned it could be the lighting. I use an organic lip balm and if I don't blot, it takes about 15 mins to set.
