Is love possible to find online? Am I crazy? or desperate?

It's totally possible and meeting somebody online doesn't have the stigma that it used to even a few years ago.

I met my husband online. He's austrailan and I'm from the US so we had a long distance relationship for about 3 years before he was able to come over to the US. We've been married almost 5 yrs now!

It definitely can work. Just like when you meet somebody offline and just know that they're the right one for you, it can happen with somebody who you meet online. That's what happened to me.

We started off as friends and when we met in person, we just knew. Everything clicked and it was just as it was online.

So good luck to you, I hope it all works out!

Wow that's sad about what his family is saying. I think you'll get narrow minded people anywhere with any situation and it has nothing to do with you. But I do think that if he lets his family talk him out of it then maybe it's not meant to be and he's not the right guy for you. He should do what he feels and not be influenced by his family in ways like this.

And it sounds like he's still coming so that's great!

My parents were apprehensive at first and didn't meet my husband till our wedding day (I lived in a different city than them). They love him! I think that what you (and he) thinks is all that matters. All other people should stay out of it (in a negative way).

I'm soooo excitited! Just two more months! This is very nerve wracking (sp?)

Can anyone share any tips as to what to do when I meet him? I mean like, because I live in NYC (Staten Island) and he was saying that at some point of his visit he wants to look around the city, but me being me, I wouldnt take him to the places that tourists usually go, unless it's like 34th st if I feel like shopping lol!
Did anyone else feel nervous that first day of meeting someone online?

Yeah of course I felt nervous. I felt like I was going to die I was so nervous! But it melted away pretty quickly once we met.

Just be yourself and it'll be wonderful!

Were the 'rents apprenhensive because u met him online, or just being parents about their daughther in general? Because not that my famliy cares, but if they do ask, I wasn't thinking of telling them I met him online, everyone else, yea, but not the fam, they are just so judgmental *rolls eyes*

As technology changes the way we meet and interact with each other will change too. So no its not strange or as stigmatized as it once was to meet or date someone online. I'm sorry to hear about his friends reaction to him coming out here or his brother's ignorant reaction. If you feel this is right I think you should meet, rather than live the rest of your life wondering what if.

Now for places to take someone in NYC that's not touristy. Chelsea Piers is one. Plenty to do there without the usual tourist traps. Also for a killer view of the city try that park under the Brooklyn Bridge. It's called Brooklyn Bridge Park I think lol. I happen to like South Street Seaport. Yes a bit touristy but its a little bit of old NY and 2 decent malls

. Get back to me about what you would want to do and I will see what I can come up with.

I think I almost had a panic attack before I met my online guy! But once we met, it was like it always was. If you really click that much online, then in person shouldn't be a problem once the initial awkwardness wears off. So exciting!

I met my boyfriend of... four years as of this month! online. I thought I was in love with him at the time, but really it was infatuation. It was after meeting him for real and getting to know the person behind the phone calls and photos that I fell in love. And I'm still there!

He certainly wasn't my type; white, hairy, short and we'll say 'assertive' haha. But look, he's the love of my life. He's amazing, no one has ever clicked with me the way he has.

We were at different ends of the country, and NZ is only a small place, so it wasn't that far... But I was 17 at the time (he was 19), eheh, so it was a little weird with my parents. He came up the first summer I knew him for a vacay and BAM. Love. Maybe not instantly, it wasn't until he left that I knew for sure sure how I felt.

So I guess the short answer is yes
smiles.gif

ETA: HELL YES I was nervous. I was also a new driver and had to drive over to the nearest airport (hour and a half away) to pick him up... Lots and lots of nervousness.

But I hope u guys have the time of ur lives when u meet him

They really are something lol.
Yeah 3 planes is pretty impressive, especially since he really is scared of flying.
Thanks, I hope things work out for you guys too. The next couple months will go fast.

For everybody who has meet partners online did you ever worry about whether they were genuine? I'm finding that I've left the happy 'honeymoon' period and now in paranoia mode.

For me...I was DESPERATE lol. I dated guys who lived in my area but had no success. I mean they were jerks! and I just gave up. So I slowly got into chatting with other people and a year later I started talking to this guy. We were friends online then became closer so after another year we decided to have a long distant relationship. We only lived a couple hours away so it wasnt soo bad. He moved to my area and were together for almost four years then we broke it off. He became too possesive and I couldnt take it.

But the first few years were great...I mean you can find love or TRUE love on the internet. I met my current bf at school so love can be possible anywhere!

I was extremely nervous! I remember the day before trying on so many outfits trying to look the best. best hair. best makeup. I remember being on the plane, looking at the clock and it saying 3pm. I wasnt supose to land til 4pm, and i forgot the time change. Next thing you know I'm landing and i'm FREAKING OUT. hahaha

I went in the bathroom when we landed to check how i looked, then got lost. But when i finially saw him I didn't feel nervous really. I was like seeing a friend who i just havent seen in a while.

He gave me a hug, and it wasnt weird. We stopped to get gas, and he like came to my door, and just LOOKED AT ME. it was cute.

Then when we finially got to his house we kissed. It was cute.
THEN it moved on from there.

But.. it is nerve racking, but totally worth it.

I'm going to see him in 2 weeks

I booked my ticket last night.

I totally agree with the previous posts that it is not desperate or crazy b/c it happens so frequently now. I was also someone who met a b/f online but we did not have a success story for too many reasons but I don't believe meeting online was one of them. I was on Myspace and he was one of those random guys who messaged me and thought we should chat. He was older than me and lived one state away and like alot of people in this thread, we started sending PMs then messaging and I was a nervous wreck when we first met b/c I made the decision to drive to where he lived to meet up. We ended up clicking in person right away like we did online but I do believe thinking back on it now that in a way I was too eager to be with someone b/c my last b/f had broken up with me about 4 months before and I do think I rushed into it too soon. We had the long distance thing where I went and saw him every weekend and eventually it caused issues with my family and friends b/c he never made the effort to come see ME. Long story short, I broke things off b/c we were having lots of problems and things just weren't working out but in the long run, I'm glad I have that "online" experience behind me. I wouldn't rule out doing it again but I will definitely not rush into it!
I hope things work out for you two and that meeting him in person is everyting you dream it to be!! Please let us know how it goes and try not to let his family/friends' comments bother you b/c evidently they are just not approving of the online dating/chatting scene. It's normal for them to want him to be cautious but in the end it's just between him and you. Good luck!
