Ideal for online shopping. Send and receive payments through PayPal's secure network. Personal accounts cannot accept debit or credit card payments.

Does this mean I can't pay with a debit or credit card or I just can't receive payments with those?

You can send payment via credit/debit card, e-check, instant transfer (Paypal balance) or bank transfer. You can receive e-check, instant transfer & bank transfer payments. If someone sends you a payment made via credit/debit card, you'll receive a notification via email and your Paypal account will have two options (ACCEPT) and (DENY).

Sellers sometimes only have personal accounts and they are unable to accept credit/debit payments.

Technically, it's against Paypal's policy to charge someone a fee for sending payment via credit/debit. However, it is common/accepted practice for sellers to ask for a surcharge.

The cost of having a Premier (upgraded) account is 2.9% of the amount sent + .30 transaction fee.

If you send someone $100 using a credit/debit card, Paypal will take $2.90 upfront plus .30 for a transaction fee. That means the seller ends up with $96.80 for the payment.

If the seller asks the buyer to add $3.10 for Paypal fees, the buyer would send $103.10 & Paypal will take $2.99 + .30 for a transaction fee.

A seller who has a single Paypal account and it's a Premier account will end up paying fees on every payment received, regardless of method (credit/debit card, e-check, or transfers.)

Hope that helps....

It's easiest to have the seller send you a paypal invoice. This will details what you're buying and how much it is. Then both of you have a record. Really, paypal is quite wonderful and safe. Remember to always use a credit card for extra protection

I'm not sure where to post this question...

I'm interested in selling makeup on the clearance bin. How do I go about setting something like that up? How do I make a PayPal invoice to send to the person buying the makeup? Do I need a P.O. Box? Would the buyer and sellers personal addresses be confidential if neither had a P.O. Box?

I'm sorry if this has been asked and answered somewhere else. I searched the site and couldn't find anything that would answer my question.s

First you need to have access (I can't see right now because I'm on mobile) Second create a thread (pics and prices help :p) Third when anyone is interested they usually either post on the thread or send you a PM with their email/paypal addresss. You will then invoice them using that address. Confirm addresses and contact information by PM to protect everyone's privacy (and compulsive buying lol) Make sure you're clear about PayPal fees and payment preferences (invoice vs gifting) A lot of us know buyers long enough to gift payment but it is not promoted or encouraged for the safety of both, and it's usually to the discretion of the buyer/seller We also have feedbacks on each user profile so you can check if they have been a good buyer/seller. You can get a pobox if you want up to you. Not required.

Thank you for replying!

I do have access. I've never bought or sold anything on the clearance bin since I've gained access.

I'm on PayPal right now looking up how to do the invoice. So once I fill out the invoice and enter in their email address, they will see it in their PayPal account? How long would they need to make the payment? Is that determined by PayPal or by me?

I'm a little confused on the PayPal fees and how to calculate those fees. I've looked it up on PayPal and for the US it would be 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction. So would the 2.9% be that percentage of the total? Say for instance the total was $10 - 2.9% would be $2.90 + 0.30 = $3.20 additional payment needed. Is that how you figure out the fees? And the fees would either need to be paid by the buyer or the seller?

In regards to gifting, would that be the same as "sending money to friends and family"? So if someone decides to gift/send me the money that way, they wouldn't have to pay the fees unless they were using a credit/debit card (if they are in the US)? So for record purposes, I would then send them a "requesting money"? If they decided to use a credit/debit card, would they be paying the fees?

Would you recommend using the invoice option for a first time seller?

I'm sorry! I'm new to this and am a little confused.

Once you invoice, they will get an email and see it on their account. YOU determine how long you want to give the buyer to pay. Paypal fees are usually shown on the onvoice itll say how much youre paying for fees. YOU can determine to pay them yourself or have the buyer invoice you extra to include fees. gifting is the same as sending money to family and friends and they pay no fees if they use their bank account. in this case you would give them your email and they would send you the money. in this case, you should ask for shipping address since gifting does not provide the seller with a shipping address. if you request money its the same as invoicing. invoicing you pay fees, period. i would recommend invoicing to anyone. specially new sellers. protection for both of you and just clear and simple. I personally only gift to sellers i know and im comfortable with, and some even after various transactions still preffer invoice. Its just easier, better for everyone's peace of mind.

Just FYI, it seems like we don't have the gifting option in Germany. So just throwing this in here that other (EU) countries might not have the gifting option, either.

Thank you so much for taking the time to explain all of this to me!!

So the fees will be calculated on the invoice already? And then I would make the decision to either pay that myself or have the buyer pay for it.

As for shipping, I would just need to head up to my nearest post office to have them weigh the package and determine how much it would cost to ship? Or do the "if it fits, it ships"? And the seller or buyer would either have to pay that? Do most sellers pay that or do they usually have the buyer pay for shipping?

Could you explain the whole "bumping" thing? I've read about it in the FAQ for the clearance bin but I'm a little confused on that. So it will alert the forum "staff" that I posted an update for the thread and "bump" my post up towards the top?

I think I will stick with using the invoice option rather than the gifting for safety purposes.

Thank you again! I really appreciate you answering my questions and clearing up any confusion I have.

yes. you will know how much you will be paying in fees usually. as Naynadine says you might not have the option to gift payment for out of the country accounts. shipping is up to you: either you prepay postage or go to the post office. a lot of us use the bubble wrap envelopes and have them weigh it. some include the shipping costs on the price of the item, some add it separate and add extra per item: ie: RIRI Lippy $30 SHIPPED (usually means its 30 with shipping included - riri lippy $30 (3 initial item shipping, $1 additional item) this is just an example of how some sellers do it. bumping is writing anything on the thread which will send it to the first page of the forum automatically. yeah, stick to invoicing. safest way. and youre welcome
