Beauty Marked: Thumbs Up...Or Thumbs Down?

I'm debating on whether or not to buy Beauty Marked.
I hear great--and then not so great--things about the e/s.

Some people say it's their favorite color--others say it applies black while looking reddish-purplish-black in the pan.

What do you all think? Should I go ahead and fork over the cash?

well

it's not as vibrant as it looks in the pot, unless you use a sponge applicator with it, and a good base. it basically winds up looking like a smokey cool grey, unless you use it with other purples or burgundies, then it looks closer to how it looks in the pot

i love this shadow, personally, i use it a lot. but i could see how it wouldn't be a necessity. it's just a softer alternative to carbon, or black tied.

on a side note - in the non-MAC world, nars' night fever is a REALLY nice and more burgundy-purple-black and it provides all the effect you'd want beauty marked to. it's just a little more expensive.. i own this as well and it's woooonderful.

I love Beauty Marked.

The trick to bringing out the purple is to USE A PURPLE BASE! It does, in fact, look more black when applied as opposed to the purple shimmer in the pan. But when you use a purple base [shadestick, liner, paint pot] it re ups the purple tones and makes it pop.

Hope this helps.

Love it! Buy it! I love love love this color as a liner, a crease color, and it looks amazing over other colors, IMO. HTH

The texture isn't my favorite (I think it is a velvet) but for a crease and outer "V" color it is divine. I agree that it looks good with a grey smokey eye.

i like it. i don't think it's a staple, though. i bet it'd look pretty damn hot over flammable paint! the base is the key with beauty marked.

I am undecided whether I like this shadow or not... It is beautiful, but it takes some skill to blend it properly. I'll keep practicing though, because it's so gorgeous.

My thumb is kinda in the middle. It looks gorge in the pot but once applied? Meh, its okay. I think with a red a base it would bring out those red sparkles in it. I've been meaning to try this myself but I just haven't gotten around to it. I think I'll try this today, maybe tomorrow and report back!

I have Beauty Marked as well and while I like it, it def needs to be used over a red base if you want to actually see the red in it when its applied. I am actually going to buy NARS Night Fever and see if thats better, I prefer NARS e/s to MAC and I'm, pretty sure I'll get a better result.

I love it! It was one of the first eyeshadows I hit pan on. It looks gorgeous over crimsonaire shadestick!

I bought this and have so far been disappointed... it just looks so flat and boring when I try to use it, a light, faded black color. I may try it over a purple base (Royal Hue) as suggested, but if at all possible, I would suggest trying this out at MAC before purchasing.

Beauty Marked was my first every MAC shadow. I wore it for my senior portraits. I haven't worn it in over a year though (woooow) but it still always holds a special place in my heart :p

Beauty Marked was one of my first MAC shadows ever! One of my favorite ways to use it is as a liner! And it looks so pretty with anything in the red-purple-burgundy-pink family. It takes a little work to learn how to use it for what you want, but it is so worth it!!

I have beauty-marked too and Ive never figured out how to use it- and i hate the texture... sometimes I'll use it in the crease if I cant find my Smut e/s fast enough butttttt... I dont know, I wish I could figure out a way to use it-- it also has horrrribly fall-out so do your eyes first if you're going to wear it!

I like Beauty Marked, I don't use it as an eyeshadow but rather with my MAC Pencil Brush (I forget the number) to go over my liner to make it last longer and give a little added sparkle.
