Milani l/s taste and smell really, really weird when they go on at first, but it fades, the colour lasts well, and the shade selection really rocks. They have really wonderful shades, like Rose Hip (a scorchingly bright pink similar to Nars' Schiap), Merry Go Red (a good medium bright red - not really blue or orangey at all, very much in the middle), and Fuschia Freeze (frosted reddish hot pink, IMHO not dissimilar to Rocking Chick from Barbie).
My current favourite is Bonfire, a copper-frosted medium red which works a treat with the Moonbathe coppery/orangey eyeshadow hues. I can't think of MAC l/s which is exactly equivalent to Bonfire, I really think it's lovely and unique.
Milani's glosses are lovely and don't suffer from the big downside the lipsticks have of that weird flowery taste, instead they're kinda vanilla/chocolatey - their sheer lipstick range also has this improved scent and taste. In the lipglosses I have only "Smooch" - a red gloss with loads of pigment and shine - and from the Milani sheer lipsticks I only have "Candy Apple", a really pretty bluish red glaze, but MUA contains lots of thumbs up reviews for other products in both of these ranges, and from the one thing I've got from both lines I would heartily recommend them.
The other d/s range I enjoy is Rimmel, but their colour range is a bit limited. "Screamer" and "Diva Red" are great little reds, though, and "bordeaux" is a half decent burgundy.
PS, I'm a little bit obsessed with red lipsticks and have FAR too many, lol! so apologies if this is a bit biased towards the red end of the l/s spectrum, its just my personal preference, and I tend to think that a good, pigmented red in the range tends to be an indication of decent quality, worthwhile lipsticks.
