I was reading my Elle magazine on the train home the other day and came across a really interesting article "clearing up the Beauty Myths" page 367. Being the make up geek that I am once I had read it I really wanted to share the info I got from it, so I thought it would be a good place to post it...
"Myth-- cosmetics which use parabens as preservatives are potentially dangerous and should be avoided.
Truth-- Parabens are a family of preservatives found widely in plant sources. the synthetic parabens used as preservatives are identical to those found in nature and are highly effective. It's just the news that parabens are both nautral and safe that doesn't make an exciting headline."
"Myth-- You can get hooked on lip balm
Truth-- Debate continues on this. It seems you can get hooked on feeling of having moisturized lips."
"Myth--Hypoallergenic means a product that is safe for sensitive skin.
Truth--It's not quite as simple as this. It just means that when they are making the product the manufacturers have done their best to remove common allergens and irritants such as fragrance or a certain preservative. Hypoallergenic products are worth seeking out if you haves sensitive skin, but it doesn't meant there is nothing in them which you might react."
It's worth a read if you get it! I've only posted a few from the artical but I found it a little insightfull
