I was talking to a friend of mine the other day and the subject of foundation brushes came up. She was saying that you're not supposed to wash them, because when you do the brush soaks up more of the product than you put on your face. I disagreed, saying that if you don't wash them after you use them the brush is basically a breeding ground for bacteria. It's to my understanding that after using brushes with moist product, you should wash them right away to prevent the growth of germs/bacteria. I also said that if you had a good foundation brush, it shouldn't be soaking up THAT much product in the first place. She then told me that a friend of hers worked at MAC and now works at Faces, and he said that apparently they didn't wash their foundation brushes? Which I find highly unbelieveable, especially considering that MAC is all about sanitary procedures :S Then she also went on to say that they had a brush for every color of the foundation and they just used that and didn't wash them so that the brushes didn't soak up product. Don't all the artists only have one set of brushes for them to use? I just completely don't believe what she told me at all, and that's probably the reason why her friend doesn't work at MAC anymore. If he isn't washing his brushes, I don't think he should be working at Faces, either :S The whole thought just grosses me out, imagine the germs they would be spreading onto people's faces!
Just wanted to know some of your input...
Thanks for reading

I think that's total BS- sorry. It just makes no sense. Really- why would a counter/store MA care if their brushes soak up more product in the first place. It's not like they have to pay for the testers or anything. When I go to any MU counter they always use a clean brush and I notice that they at least wipe it down with MU Wipes or something to clean it.

Yeah, that's what I thought! I've had MUA's try foundations on my face with brushes and they've always been clean. It's just my friend was giving me this 'i know more than you' attitude because her friend used to work there.

Speaking as a former MAC MA, it is standard MAC protocol to wash/clean their brushes. I really don't want to start a panic over hearsay and rumour. Thread closed.
