Discontinued does NOT mean OLD!!!

I work at an Estee Lauder Company store (for those of you who don't know, Estee Lauder OWNS M.A.C. cosmetics as well as other name brand cosmetics companys... this is why Estee Lauder is known as THE cosmetics company...)
Anyway... I had a friend purchase some M.A.C. foundation (moisture rich) and it broke her face out (probably an allergic reaction of some kind) but when she visited the M.A.C. counter in Nordstrom at the MacArthur Mall in Norfolk,VA she was told that her particular foundation had been discontinued and it probably broke her skin out b/c it was OLD...
This angered me b/c first of all My store does NOT sale OLD/OUTDATED/EXPIRED merchandise, and secondly b/c instead of trying to be a dermatologist she should've just stayed in her lane and been a make-up consultant... Now she's given the impression that the cosmetics company store Im employed with has bad merchandise and that's not the case at all... Little does she realize, she's employed for the SAME company as I and by slandering ONE Estee Lauder store she's in turn slandering herself...

Just wanted to let you all know, that just b/c a item is discontinued doesn't mean it was a BAD item or OLD it just means they stopped making it, and most of the time the discontinued items are the MOST POPULAR!!!!!!!!

Have you tried explaining that to her? Secondly, I disagree that most of the time the d/c'd products are the most popular.

i think sometimes people discontinue things because they can't get the ingrediants anymore. or else they just re-formulate. sometimes of course it's because the product isn't popular. and i have never been worried that i was buying old and out of date stock at a cco - as long as something is sealed you can have it years! it's all good :) even older glosses i have bought at a cco have the normal vanilla smell.

I explained to my friend that it wasn't old and I told her Im sure thats not the reason her skin broke out. And I agree with you Nicala the discontinued items are most of the time the most popular... I get so many customers everyday looking specifically for discontinued items.

LMD84 I love the CCO... and the customers love us too!!! They are so pleasantly surprised at how reasonably priced we are and how much we actually carry!!!

I could be that her skin dislikes the foundation. I hear of a lot of people breaking out with MAC foundation. I tried the MSF Natural and it broke me out, sadly. I enjoy CCO's a lot. Went there a week ago and got a good amount of shadows and other things!

Does she have oily skin, out of curiosity? Moisture Rich, just from the sounds of it, sounds like it would put a lot of moisture into your skin. That doesn't work on all skin types, especially on people who tend to break out easily and/or have enlarged pores.

I can't find anything on Google about Mac Moisture Rich -- I see Bobbi Brown and Anna Sui. Sorry I can't help you more! I was trying to look into ingredients.

Anyway, the MacArthur Mall location tends to employ people that are a bit on the snobby side... I would just let it roll off. Anything could have broken her out, it's not the CCO's fault. BTW, I work minutes from that mall!
