eye makup tips for older women?

I love all the looks everyone comes up with and the tutorials are so interesting! But I am in my 50's and have too many wrinkles and lines to use pigments and shiny eyeshadows. Does anyone have any suggestions for a nice smokey eye that won't make everything look so obvious? I love makeup and have everything, but I have to admit I am just getting too old to wear bright colors and shiny stuff..help!!

You know, I was going to start a topic with the same question! I hope more people answer!
I have heard one thing about eye shadows, and that is to use mattes. That's all I know about makeup for older women.
And I disagree, older women can wear bright colours ou just gotta know how to do it!

Me, too, cosMEtix! Mattes are better because they don't play up that crepe look on the eyelids we ALL get as we age. Only problem is most of them are so chalky and dry. I've heard that Urban Decay has a line of matte e/s that don't have that chalky consistency, but haven't tried them, yet. I've found that I can wear shimmery shadows if I don't go overboard. Just use a good primer, like Urban Decay Primer Potion (if you can ever find it in stock!) BTW, I'm 46.

I'm older too and I loved all of the N Collection shadows. You could do a great smokey eye using those shades. Quite Natural paint pot would be great too. In general MAC's satins and mattes work fine on my crepey lids!

My mother is in her 70's and I can put bold colors on her, but they are blended very well and placed carefully. I can't do a lot of the looks seen here, because her eyes have drooped. She doesn't have wrinkles. She just has some drooped eyelids. She wears glasses too. That makes a difference too.

I can put shimmer on her bone area, but that's it. The rest is matte on her.

As for myself, I really stopped wearing very vivid colors in my teens. It just clashed with my coloring in general. I may add a touch of bright here and there, but not the entire eye area.

thanks for everyone's response. Today I purchased Paints in Untitled and it's really nice, made my shadows go on easier and stay put...and I got Paint Pot in Painterly and it's less oily than the paint product...almost like a concealer, but makes shadow stay put and look truer to the real color...also, I know for sure, if you have a crease or wrinkle around the eye area, don't put shadow in or around it because it will just emphasize it more!! getting older is a drag sometimes, but I will be wearing makeup as long as I am able to get put it on, or have someone do it for me!

It's always nice to go a bit softer - can't be bright and crazy all the time! I find purples/lavenders and greys are great for a smoky eye. It's subtle enough for you and dramatic enough to bring out the eyes.
