HD or Mat Velvet

I have been searching for a good everyday foundation for some time and I have been wanting to try one of these products for forever, but my local Sephora does not carry this brand. I'd really appreciate any help I can get with choosing between these products!

I have oily skin most times, but as I am in my teen years I break out frequently and when I do, I use a lot of products that tend to dry out my skin. I don't want anything that will be obnoxiously difficult to blend, and I'd prefer something with good staying power.

If any of you know the color match for a Ceylan in NARS Sheer Glow, please let me know.

what kind of products are you using to dry out your skin? and what skincare products are you using in general?
A lot of the times, people are oily because their skin is actually dehydrated. When ppl are oily they think they shouldnt use moisturizer and similar products... but in reaity, if your skin is lacking moisture, it start freaking out and go into overproduction of oil. One thing taht can really help out oily skin is a yogurt mask. Yogurt balances out the skin...

If you are indeed very oily i would suggest the mat velevt with a mattifying base like all mat. This one is a bit thicker than the HD and is UBER mat (while hd has some light reflecting qualities). For a more natural look apply it with a humid sponge. also, you MUST set it, especially if you are oily.

If the yogurt mask helps you out, i would later switch to HD if you prefer the look/coverage.

I agree, Mat Velvet will probably be better for your oily skin. MV can sometimes be difficult to blend, so I would suggest spraying some Fix+ on your foundation brush or over your face before applying. And you only need a small amount! It will get very cakey if you overapply.

I have slighly oily skin, but I love both of these foundations! MV is great for oil control, has great staying power and coverage with a nice soft matte finish. MV doesn't feel heavy, but HD is definitely lighter feeling. HD also has a nice youthful/natural/luminous finish to it and decent lasting power too. I find that HD matches me a bit better (broader color range) but I do have to blot once a day with HD. Rarely need to blot with MV. Both are fantastic foundations and I would recommend both, so I think it just comes down to preference and color match of course!

Lately I have actually been mixing them together for a PERFECT SUPER AWESOME foundation, lol. I wear MAC Matte cream all over my face as a primer and set with a generic HD silica powder, and finish off with a spritz of Mist & Fix. Works great for me!

For day I use Clinique Liquid Facial Soap, #3 Toner, and the Dramatically Different Gel, and at night I use Neutrogena SkinID acne system. I'm not very oily, just reasonably oily. I would like to try the yogurt mask, but what kind of yogurt should I use? Just any yogurt? I have some Yoplait harvest peach yogurt in my refridgerator...

I'm into the youthful/natural/luminous finishes, but the ones I've tried have not lasted long. I'm scared of matte foundations since they look terribly unnatural on me. I've actually been wondering about MAC Matte, does it actually work well?

MAC Matte works well. But If you are looking for something cheaper and better to mattify, try monistat's anti chafing gel. A trick of the trade item that has similar ingredients found in MAC matte and Smashbox's primer.

I say HD if you want luminous. Matte is really matte and you would want to put some type of MSF over it if you want to glow

MAC Matte is the best I've come across so far, and I've tried Smashbox Photofinish, MUFE HD Primer, MAC Prep & Prime, and BE Prime Time

Its true, MV is quite matte. For me, MV does look pretty matte until a few hours after wear. By then the oils have surfaced a bit....not enough for me to blot but it just doesn't look as matte. If you are concerned about the uber-matteness, you can always add a luminizing finishing powder, or mix the MV with a luminizing moisturizer (again, I actually like to mix it with HD! lol!)

I love HD to death, but if I didn't blot I would definitely be a slick oily mess by the end of the day. But again, I do love both foundations and I wear them to suit my look/mood (lol). I just need to deal with them differently when wearing them.

I would get samples to try out first if you can! Good luck!
