Help with choosing a base

Ive been looking through alot of the tutorals on here and many of you use a CCB or a Paint as a base before you put your shadow on. I always do a smokey eye. So what would be a good CCB and Paint to use? I bought Bare Canvas Paint but not sure if that goes under a smokey eye or not? Would a CCB like Dusk work? Can you guys give me some suggestions? Thanks.

I think either one would work. Bare Canvas would be cool.
