How do YOU use Mac Carbon?

I bought Carbon a few weeks ago, but for some reason I cannot apply it properly! It just doesn't look right - I always end up looking like I've got panda eyes. When I use it to line my eyes, it's quite messy and I need to apply A LOT to get a decent black line.

How do you apply it for a smokey eye look? Which brush do you use? Do you use any particular technique? Do you have any tips for a makeup novice like me?

I use Carbon on the outter corner of my lids and blend up into my crease using a fluffy blending brush.

Unhelpful I guess since it didn't work for you but I use Carbon as my everyday liner on my top lids. I apply with an angled liner brush. I also use it for my eyebrows.

Question: which blending brush do you use? MAC 217 and 224 are identified as blending brushes but I usually end up using something similar but smaller (non-MAC). And are you applying in a deliberate V shape at the outer corner or just to the outer third of your eye (and then blending back towards the inner corner)? I seldom use black but when I do I have to be very careful to not cross the line into 'pandaville.'

I use a smaller brush like a pencil brush to apply in a v and then a fluffy brush like the sigma E40 or E35 to blend in and up toward the crease. I tend to use black sparingly. I'm always afraid of looking like I have raccoon eyes. Lol

I was just thinking about and posted on how to use black e/s. Don't have carbon tho. Informative and useful thread . Thanks!

Since Carbon isn't a pigmented black it needs to be packed on with a denser brush and built up. Something like a shader brush or an angled brush would work better than a soft blending brush.

I don't own Carbon, either (I think there are better, more pigmented matte blacks out there). But generally, I use black e/s as an eyeliner with an angle brush.
