Hey gals,

I've been trying to come up with a very natural yet polished eye look while using mac products. It seems like everytime I go to the counter all the products I try on look dulled down a bit. Im nc45 so I tried arena, soba, and patina first, but felt they looked pretty much invisible ,yet left my lids looking darker. I also tried woodwinked and satin taupe and they seemed kinda nice in the dimly lit mac store. So I buy them. Well I get home and play around with the products and they are way too bright and shiny for me.

This will be my second return. The first time I purchased a concealer and a luster lipstick. The concealer did wonders for covering my blemishes but broke me out badly. And the lipstick did nothing for me lips. (I had asked the lady to try the high tea lipstick. When placing it on me she decided to cover it with a highly tinted gloss. So I didnt know the true color before hand.) I exchanged those items and got woodwinked and satin taupe. But now Im not happy with them. I really dont know how many time I can actually return items at the Mac counter. Im hoping today will be my final exchange.

I really dont have time to try them on there and the lighting obscures my vision. So do you think I should go for those color I tried originally like arena, soba, and patina? Or should I try something else?

I have my eyes on bamboo, arena, kid, soba, patina, satin taupe, era, samoa silk, tete-a-tint and cork. I just need 3 or 4 color that are very subdued but will make a nice clean look for me eyes. Beyond just suggesting what colora I should get could you also tell me how to combine them. And one last thing would recommend me to try either bare study or painterly paint pot. I have groundwork but it turns everything dull and cool toned(Cant find the reciept). I've tried indiawood and runbenesque but they look too glittery like the eyeshadow honeylust.

Thanks in advance!!

I would definitely suggest Arena, Patina, and Satin Taupe. Those are 3 neutrals you listed that I have and love. I have some of the others but I don't like them as much. Woodwinked, Romp, and Twinks are great as well.

Try Bisque...it's a colour that is often overlooked...but it's so, so nice. I pair it with Satin Taupe and carbon. Beautiful smokey eye. Or, try Bisque, Brown Script & Handwritten.

Good luck!

I'd recommend Twinks for a brown, Dazzlelight for a light neutral (yellowish.) I use Jest, a pinkish peach as a neutral but not everyone wants that kind of neutral. But it's pretty.

I like to use Woodwinked only on part of my lid and use a mostly matte palette after that.... with Bronze as an outer corner color.

Thank you guys for all of the suggestions. Something came up and I wasnt able to go to the mac store this past weekend, but I will be going this Friday. So guys please keep the suggestions coming.

I guess the look that Im going for is similar to that in the smashbox everyday eyes video: Everyday Eyes. I just don't know how to translate this look into something wearable for a NC45 complexion.

I do have one of the colors you guys have mentioned. I do have brule. Its a pretty good highlight. I find it looks way more natural than ricepaper, but it looks white when used on my lids.

I do have a few colors that are kinda neutral.
Ochre styles is very flesh toned (at least for me) but is a little darker than my lids. For the most part it looks like nothing but it could almost work as a crease color. In the smashbox video I like that a flesh toned color was a tad bit lighter than her skin and was used from the lid up to the browbone. Ochrestyles would not work as the base color because its just a tad bit too dark.

Also I have no clue to what mac shimmery shadow would work(shimmery but not bright and loud and almost sheer). I went to Ulta recently and that first color in the smashbox muse pallet seems like it would be perfect. To bad they dont offer that color separately. In fact, I can just skip the shimmery color if neccessary.

And I have saddle and its just way too dark. It gives me the irritated eye look. It looks more red than orange brown. I like subtle creases. Do you guys think that cork would be a better natural crease color instead?

Thanks again. Im going to give some of you all suggestions a try.

Well today it that day. Wish me luck. I hope I can exchange my already exchanged products one last time. It hasn't been 30 days yet.

Also do you guys think that I should show one of the MA the smashbox vid to give them an idea of what I talking about or just go in there and get what looks like it would work?
