lipstick finishes/textures

It's a semi-complaint; I wish MAC didn't have so many frost l/s, or had more of the other finishes available.

There are so many colours that I'd probably be able to wear but sometimes the frost finish means I have to avoid it because the glitter seems to migrate into every crevice of my lips, it can be a bummer. Or very frosty l/s don't seem so nice on my pigmented lips.

Or perhaps they're just giving the consumers what they want and noticed people seem to buy a lot of frost l/s?

What do you all think? Love or hate frost? Other finishes you like?

I'm actually wondering what glaze and lustre are like (a person's/user's view rather than the MAC explanations on the site which sound as fanciful as their colour descriptions...so not always mega-useful).

Obviously, I'm here because I like MAC not to 'diss' it; just interested to hear others' thoughts.

I'm not a huge fan of the frosts either though there is one that I absolutely adore (Fresh Morrocan), but boy do I need a lot of balm first. I have to disagree that they have too many frosts though, they have a ton of shades in every formula. If anything, they are guilty of releasing too many lustres! Especially LE ones. Thats okay by me though as its my favourite formula. Of my current 12 favourites, 1 is a frost and the rest are lustres. There is almost always 2-3 in every collection.

Lustres are sheer, sometimes they have pearl and sometimes not, they are glossy though some more than others (same with sheerness). They are moisturizing, well I don't know if they actually help your lips or just make them appear moisturized. They don't have the best lasting power, but I find its a trade off. Frosts & mattes last forever but dry my lips all to hell, whereas lustres and amplified creams don't last very long but look and feel much better for me.

Glazes.. I kind of think these were just the precursor to lustres. They don't seem to be releasing new ones (correct me if I'm wrong?) and they even switched some of their old glazes over to the lustre formula (like Sheer Plum). They are much more drying but lasted longer and have a sheer finish like a lustre, but not as glossy.

Anyway, just my 2 cents.

Ah, I guess I was only looking at the existing shades, but yes, I have noticed recently that there have been plenty of lustre LE l/s being released. Thanks for your two cents - better than none

Thanks also martygreene - I apologise; I didn't realise that you had a chart up about the l/s finishes.

I think lustres sound like the go for me...being a lipgloss lover originally.

This week I got my Prep+Prime Lip and you should try it! It fills in any chap or crevice in your lips and your lipstick is great on top of it. I just applied some more lipstick cuz I just ate a muffin. It doesn't seem to help keeping regular lipstick on all day, but it does help with the even texture.

For staying power, I use my Lusterlong stuff, but without the gloss. The gloss on top makes it creep, for me. But without it, the color is there ALL DAY. I do always use a liner, tho.

What was sheer plum before? I thought it always was a lustre, but then I never really wore it much so maybe it was an amplified creme? Either way, it's a decieving color as it's not at all plum!

I do like lustre lipsticks a good bit, but I'm also partial to mattes. I do agree that I wish more lipsticks were a straight creme without pearl/frost to them. Something in the lustre formula but without the pearl/frost would be lovely. It would give just the right amount of tint and sheen.

Sheer plum was previously a glaze. The shade has been around for longer than the lustre formula.

There are lustres without pearl such as Hug Me, they are pretty inconsistent that way. Some are very pearly, some are not at all.

I don't think glazes are glossy like the faq says, and definately not moist.. but maybe thats just my dry lips talking!

Holy CRAP - I only knew of it as a Glaze and thought it was discontinued completely. *RUNS to MAC*

You just totally made my day!

Am I the only one that likes the satin formula? It seems to stay on so much better. BUT, the color selection stinks and they haven't had a new satin in ages. They have SO many lustres and I feel those don't last very long. Because of this I usually wear frosts.

I agree that they release too many Lustres! For some reason, I never like any of the newer Lustres-- they are all too sheer and hardly show up. I do like the older pre-existing ones like Plink, Giddy, and Politely Pink, but it seems like the ones released with new collections suck.

i'm a fan of all the formulas but the lustres. they last about 90 seconds on my lips & i really do not like the texture at all.

like that really propels the thread forward. 8) i do like frosts & some of my favs are x-pose (folks who don't care for frosts & love cool tones would probably like x-pose), cb96, relic, tortilla tan (LE), hipster (LE), relic (RIP) & (when i layer w/ gloss) creme de la femme.

Wow, satin, now that is definitely a neglected l/s finish. I like the amplified cream texture too but there doesn't seem to be many colours that I like. I'm pretty fussy with lipsticks though.

I forgot I like the amplified cream texture also, but would like more of a color selection in the satin finish. Maybe MAC makes so many lustres because they don't stay on that well and you will use more product!!!

that's the same with e/s: for example: juxt is close to a frost e/s, and sushiflower is allmost matte! they are both satins

I have to agree that the Satin lipsticks are a much neglected finish. I love Rebel, Cyber, and Mystic. I wish they would release more Satins! I can't really explain it, but they have that sort of dense, not too creamy, not too matte texture that I really enjoy.

My absolute favorite lipstick is a lustre (Petal Lure). But I don't like many other lustres. Although someone here said Prep & Prime Lip significantly helped the lustres staying power. I ordered it the other day, so I'll see if it makes a big difference soon.

My favorite formula would have to be amplified cremes. Satins are too drying for me, even more than mattes, strangely enough.

i really like frosts and have a LOT of them, but i despise the texture of Indie Girl! what happened here? yuck! next on my list are lustres and i have two satins.

i hate the look of the amplified cremes.

i like the frosts but i do usually put some sort of gloss on top as i find they dry my lips a little...i prefer the lustres because they feel more moiste even though their staying power is less.
